Toronto

I'm planning a trip to Toronto the first week of June. I'll be staying at the University of Toronto dorms (they rent rooms out in the summer for cheap). So I'll have subway access and a central location.

FYI, when I go to a new city, I usually walk a lot/take mass transit, I usually find an area/restaurant I want to go to and explore the area on the way. I especially like unique/quirky areas of town (especially those that make the city what it is). Any places I should make sure to visit? I tend to hate touristy stuff and try to minimize how much time I spend with that stuff, although recognize there's generally still some cool stuff.

any suggestions/ideas would be great!

Yes, the area downtown by the hockey hall of fame is pretty cool. There are a lot of shops and restaurants around. There is also the Distillery District which is very close. I also went to an area over on Bathurst street that had a lot of cool little coffee shops, bars and restaurants. Try the Amsterdam Brewing company.

There is a Greek area which has some small restaurants, bars, cafes. It has been a while since I have been there so I can't remember the name of the area.

The Greek area is called the Danforth, its just east of downtown.

Just walking along Queen Street or Yonge Street is a lot of fun, tons of stuff to see and do, awesome streetlife.

Pretty good theater scene there as well.
