Federer goes down tonight to Gilles Simon in 3 sets. Federer was up 4-2 in the third and basically choked the last 4 games due to a loose forehand. This should mean Federer will lose the #1 ranking before the US Open starts. He had to defend a final's appearance from last year.
It's weird to see Federer look human; he was just so dominant for so long that it's just so unexpected to see him choke away matches. I actually viewed the Wimbledon loss as somewhat of a positive for Roger as he showed some fight coming back from 2 sets down. Losses like this (especially after early season losses to Fish and Stepanek) signal the end of an era.
It's good for tennis to have the sport more unpredictable. Federer is no longer the big favorite of every non-clay tournament in the world.
