Most glaring omission is kickball. The names are also all wrong. Kill the Man with the Ball OR Fumble Drills? That would be smear-the-queer. Boxball? Four-square. Burnball? Wall-ball.

Reading this article and the author's comments, made me immensely grateful I grew-up in the great State of Texas, where I actually got to play on REAL GRASS!

FWIW, the omission of "British Bulldog" and/or "Red Rover", renders this list BS!

Is wallball the same as spread eagle? Four square was in there with a different name. Hotbox is missing. So is bombardment.

i remember rainy day recesses. we were relegated to a large asphalt area, known as the blacktop.

we would play smear the queer on concrete. somehow, no one died. i doubt kids are allowed to play on blacktops anymore.

We called it "smear the queer" sometimes, but it was predominantly known as "tackle the man with the football."

I grew up playing tops. Draw a circle throw your top, then everyone attempts to split your top while it spins within the circle. If you split it, you get to keep the point.

Key terms: Piquete=direct hit with the point, causing damage
Pampasos=wood to wood, no damage
Stias=clean split

You didn't grow up in the barrio like we did. This event always took place in the caliche alley behind your house.

Houston suburbs checking in... off the top of my head great games for us kids...

Smear the queer - hands down school yard favorite
Hotbox
Kick the can
Cupball - behind the bleachers at ball games standard
Dirt clod wars
Evel Knievel - rig up a ramp and jump bikes over stuff
Ghost rider - related to the above - ride as fast as you can and jump off your bike and see how far the bike can go on its own, sometimes did that into a ditch
Cowboys and Indians - used hot wheel tracks as guns, also left a nice mark when converted to swords/whips
Blood ball - (tackle football in the street)
500
King of the mountain - needed a dirt pile for this

1. Teatherball is OVERRATED on that list. That game sucks.
2. Wall Ball was the greatest playground game ever. I remember we played right after lunch in my school and it started off pretty tame. Then some guys would show up with racquetballs and stand around and watch until someone dropped the ball..then they would pounce. Man, those were crazy times.
3. Tackle The Man With The Football- my cousins and I played this until we were in high school. Never got enough of it...hell we still play it now.
