TOP TEN Crosswind and Scary Aircraft Landings

I was on a plane (a 727/737 I think) that made a landing like that in a storm once in Ukraine. I remember sitting in an isle seat and looking directly forward in the direction that the plane was traveling and I could see forward through the side windows on the plane. It was much like the 3rd or 4th ones on that link. After I was on the ground we heard that the storm uprooted quite a few large trees around town. In he US the pilot usually flys to an alternate area if they can avoid wind like that. Scary stuff.

Almost nothing can compare to that...

If you want to trick somebody for April Fools, send them this link. An airplane loses a wing during flight but manages to land. The pilot is seen popping the cockpit lid at the end.

that april fools day video is terrible. the photoshop job is brutal on the landing.

that first pilot was even worse. granted he may have been in a crosswind, but c'mon, he pulls the nose up way before the ground and almost stalls, then proceeds to tilt the wings and overcompensate like crazy.

I watched a B-52 do this once...freaked me out, the landing gear is steerable so they can be lined up with the runway but the plane can be sideways. (crab landing)

Number 1 for me was our Cherokee Six landing at Walker Municipal Airport in Minnesota circa 1983. The most scared I've ever been.

I was golfing at Morris Williams 25+ years ago on a very, very windy day. We got to one hole that had a view of one of the Robert Mueller Airport runways, and we about freaked out when we saw one of the big jets make a landing much like the one at the :45 mark. I thought for sure it was going to miss the runway and crash. We saw a couple of smaller jets make similar landings, but the big jet made the most spectacular impression.
