Fictitious and real. My 2 are English movie gangsters and I can come up with some like Jabba the Hutt, but I'll let ya'll go first.

Niko Bellic

XXXX

He was a coke dealer that wanted out, couldn't get out, so he just set up the right guys to get to the Top. He ended up with 15 minutes of fame, the king is dead, long live the king.

He's no different than Papa Corleone when he had to make an offer he couldn't refuse or when Michael Corleone whacked everyone at the end of original Godfather.

He just didn't live to tell a longer tale.

nobody mentioned lucky luciano? not only did he start the national syndicate. he gets locked up. gets the mob to sink an american transport ship to show the US government that he was still in charge of the ports........then made a deal with the government to get the sicilian mafia to help out the US invasion of Italy.

Frank Sinatra
Sam Giancano
Jimmy Hoffa

Not sure if Hoffa and Sinatra were truly gangsters but they had lots of ties to them.

Ben Kingsley in Sexy Beast. I pride myself in being a fairly tough guy, but if I ever met a somebody like that, I'd probably just curl up in the fetal position and beg him not to hurt me too much.

Charlie Luciano gets my vote for all the reasons stated above. Also when he was in exile he made an attempt to base out of Cuba so he could have better access to the USA. The government threatened to shut Cuba down unless they sent Lucky back to Italy. I would say he was big time.

Meyer Lansky would be 1a. He was a the "treasurer" for Unione Siciliano.

Obviously I recommend "The Last Testament of Lucky Luciano"
