Top 5 in 2008?

It is all relative and subjective anyways. All this class needs to be is a top 10 class though with a few studs. With 2 top 5 classes preceeding it you just add in a few studs and you have the makings of a title run in 09 and 2010.

I think we will have a much better chance with next year's class. That class is rich with studs in-state, and most of them seem to view UT favorably.

Probably not, but we will have a top 10 class and will have addressed areas of need right now (RB, WR, and DB mainly). I will be very happy with this class if we do happen to get Scott

This class will never be a top 5 class but it has players that will contribute more in their 5 years here than some of the better classes we have had. They are all winners that work well in the classroom. This is the kind of class you need to have between great classes.

Texas will not end up in the top 10 unless Mich, USC & Clemson are done recruiting.
Possibly Oregon as well if they land Kuli.
I would say if Texas doesn't take any other players & the rest of them take 1 or 2 more (which USC & Mich most def will) then Texas will end up w/ a top 13'ish ranked class......which is still great.
Land Scott & you're top 6/7.

Well, think about it this way.

ESPN has Oklahoma ranked above us right now in recruiting, yet we have more of thier top 250 players (we also have 1 more recruit than Oklahoma).

Recruiting is all subjective...if you are in the top 10 you are doing well.

5***** players have more weight than 4**** players.
We have 3, you have none.
Texas will end up w/ about the same class as OU's last year & most everyone on this board thought it was horrible & Stoops gave up because Texas was cleaning up.
Fast forward a year later & we have change places almost to the T as to where both schools will end up yet Texas fans think being a 13TH ranked class (which is likely) is great compared to OU's class which was ranked the same last year.
Again, if Texas lands no one else they will struggle to remain in the top 13-15.
Anyone who doesn't think so doesn't follow Rivals recruiting system.

It's ok to have no idea what you're talking about. It just sucks to be called out about it from someone in the know.
Scout
Rivals

I do like the fact that Justin Johnson is the #2 RB in the country according to Scout. That ranking seems about right but in overall team rankings OU is ahead of Texas in every service.

Sorry, you're 100% wrong.

Since 73 why are you taking Rivals rankings as gospel right now when you know this is very subjective. OU may have 3 5 star players but some feel that Williams for UT is a 5 star player. What is the difference between a 5 star player and a high four star player anyways? I mean top 100 is top 100. Of course there are few elite players that standout each year and I don't think any of OU's or UT's players this year are in said category.

Another thing is the team rankings you are talking about. Do you think that UCLA or Miami have better classes than UT right now? Points wise they are all 3 about the same but UT has 6 few recruits than Miami and 3 fewer recruits than UCLA. UT has a better star ranking than both of those as well. And then there is the aforementioned subjectivity factor.

The last thing I wanted to touch on was your point that UT's 08 class is very much the same as OU's 07 class which many (including myself) thought was a bad class. I will admit that OU finished strong. However that class was 21 strong, with 8 3 star players and 3 two star players. That class did not include as many top 100 guys as UT's 08 class and is not as strong average star wise either. OU's 07 class was also very thin on the offenside side of the ball. It included only 4 skill position players....1 four star QB (good get), 2 three star WR's and 1 two star WR. 5 OL as well (again about 25% of your classes seem to be OL lately) and they weren't great gets.....3 three star OL, 1 JUCO in Loadholt who will be gone soon, and 1 really good get in Hannan (OC). Only one of those OL came from Texas and that was the only real good one. In a very deep year for OL in the state of Texas and OU only gets one. I still contend that that 07 OU class wasn't very good (on par with some Aggy classes of late) and certainly would tell you now that UT's 08 class is much more deep and balanced than it.

To summarize I disagree with your depiction of UT's 08 class both in terms of how good it is, how high it should be ranked, and how it compares to OU's 07 class.

I would put UT's 08 class at about #8 right now. Without Scott UT gets jumped by USC and that is it. So I see a definite top 10 class for UT. Please explain to me if you see otherwise.

Thank you Mooky for replying as if I had directed that comment at you and in the process misconstruing some of what I said.

My own advice? I am talking about guys in terms of star rankings b/c that is what Since 73 has based this conversation on.

two of those 2 stars never made it to campus. That could be considered good or bad. However Taylor was one of those few guys on the offensive side of the ball. My point there if you missed it was that it wasn't a very balanced class and that there were no RB's, no TE's, and very few quality WR's. In my mind you need a balanced class to be considered a good overall class b/c it will cause depth problems down the road or you will find yourself without upperclassmen at certain positions. We have seen this at UT for instance in the secondary in recent years.

The OL surplus doesn't suprise me. Perhaps if you read more of my posts you would know that this has been an area I have followed. Agree or disagree with my opinion there but I don't think that you can take 25% of your class year in and year out just at the OL position. That is one reason why the OU 07 class was thin at the skill positions...they had to burn ships at the OL and the guys they wasted 3 ships there IMO. Loadholt was a guy that could come in and fill due to the attrition but he will be gone soon and you won't have a WR or RB for instance around for the next 3 years that could have been there instead of him. OU I believe is working their way out of this situation but the attrition at OL and its affect on recruiting #'s and JUCO recruiting is real and has ripple effects.

When I say OU's 07 class wasn't good I mean that it wasn't balanced and that it was bottom heavy. Not the kind of class that OU and UT usually get and need in order to compete for national titles. It was simply the kind of class that A&M pulls in usually....well perhaps slightly better. To put it another way...were you as an OU fan happy with that class or would you have wanted or expected more?
