Earl wreaked more havoc on defenders than Ricky, but he did it against 180 pound linebackers and 250 pound linemen. Ricky had similar, if not quite so spectacular, results against the steroid era 300 pounders of the '90s. Neither one of them is kissing anybody's ***.

If the two of them met at the 50 yard line, each with a full head of steam, to find out who would put the other on his ***, we'd never find out who's better because the world would probably explode.

chuy, you may be close on the linemen weights but way off on the linebackers. remember, our own were large even by today's standard. Sholz 6'6" 240, Lance Taylor 6'2" 235, and Sendlein 6'4" 235. And dont forget Singletary at Baylor, Hunt and Cumby at ou. Earl's time was an era of great linebackers, but he usually blew them up anyway!

whatever dude...

Ricky & Earl are a toss-up to me. Ricky was unbelievable at Texas especially considering he was a full back his first two years. his junior & senior years were legendary.

That being said, no one struck as much fear in the heart of DB's than Earl. I would take either one and be happy.

Who had most YPC? Ricky played two years at FB too. Ricky was a better college back than Earl and that is not a slight to Earl. Ricky was probably the best college back to ever play with the possible exception of Barry Sanders and his 2800 yards or whatever.

The list has the right names, but I woul drank them as follows:

1. Earl
2. Ricky
3. Cedric - Not close to the top two
4. Gilbert - Durable and got the needed yards
5. Jamaal - Could have gone to 3 if he had stayed.
6. Leaks - Hard to tackle
7. Jam Jones - Everything Jamaal except the attitude
8. Bertelson
9. Metcalf - Best special teamer
10. Hodges Mitchell - Hung in there

Actually Flow....Earl spent three years as a wishbone fullback. His best of those was his sophmore year. He missed much of his junior year due to a bad hamstring. It was not until Earl was a senior that new coach Fred Akers scrapped the bone and installed a I formation with Earl at tailback and Johnny "Ham" Jones as his fullback. All that said, I believe if Earl had been in the I as a tailback all 4 years, he might well have been the NCAA all time rush leader. Yes, Ricky was listed as a fullback his first several years at Texas. The fullback of that offense can not be compared to a fullback in a wishbone.

Ricky had a combination of power + home run ability that I have not seen in any other college RB ever.

It's a huge injustice that we built an Earl statue but not a Ricky statue IMO. (just because of Ricky's off-field issues.) That really pisses me off.

yeah whatever dude... that's my comeback and I'm sticking to it.

I'll find the documented links of Earl's regular playing weight at 245 if you like and his struggle his senior year to lose weight for his senior year..

Edit: Here is the link from Earl's own website.

Bottom line the difference is small if any.

Lord once again....the fullback of the macxkovick?Brown 90's does not equate to a wishbone fullback, who besides with the exception of Raymond Clayborn his freshman year and Johnny "Lam" Jones his junior year (whe he was hurt much of the year) had no real eapons at the halback position in the bone. Earls greatest wekness??? He had a hard time catching passes on the run. Really Ricky and Earl are apples and ranges....just don't make the arguement that Ricky labored as a "fullback"
