This is according to Sean Claes, the managing editor of Insite magazine. This list with brief explanations(I think) will be published in Insite on friday. I personally am pretty stoked because my band, who is fairly unknown at this point came in at number 7.

1. Walt Wilkins and the Mystiqueros- Diamonds In The Sun

2. Kent "Omar" Dykes & Jimmie Vaughan - Jimmie Reed Highway

3. Ruthie Foster - Phenomenal Woman

4. She Craves - Radio Days

5. Matt The Electrician - One Thing Right

6. Dave Madden - Anything Goes

7. The Banner Year - ...Straight On Till Breakfast

8. The Biscuit Brothers - EIEI Radio

9. Grupo Fantasma - Grupo Fantasma Comes Alive

10. Paul Pearcy - Come and Take It

No Spoon, Bruce Robison or Kelly Willis? Also, Sam Baker's Fan-*******-tastic "Pretty World" was released in 07. That is top 10 in the world, much less just Austin.

Cool to see Paul Pearcy. I haven't seen him since his days with Darden Smith.

I'd say any CD recorded by Austin artists a couple blocks off of Mopac qualifies as "local music".

That having been said, "Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga" might be the first Spoon record that is not only failing to grow on me, but it's actually becoming uninteresting. The song I couldn't stand at first ("Japanese Cigarette Case") is now one of my favorites, and "Cherry Bomb" is the only other truly great track I can think of off the top of my head. Oh, wait -- "Black Like Me" may actually be the best track on the album. Forgot that one.

Don't get me wrong, it's a good record, but I don't think it matches "Gimme Fiction" or "Kill The Moonlight" (or . . . or . . . or . . .).

Thanks fishnugget and hullabelew, yeah, I always liked that little sounds like statement too. And after all the different things we've been told, pop punk, pop metal, alternative, I think thats a pretty good way to sum up our sound.
