Top 10 College Football Teams of the Last Decade

If recruiting rankings mean anything, Texas would be the national champion almost every year. The Longhorns and head coach Mack Brown are outstanding at bringing in some of the best-ranked talent year after year. If you listened to the guys on TV and if you just looked at records, you would think Texas was a powerhouse, a regular machine; this is far from the case. Of schools ranked within the top 10 winners, Texas has gone to the fewest BCS bowl games (two) of any of the schools on the list from BCS conferences (which is nine of them). What this shows us is that while Texas looks great on paper especially against lesser foes, they seldom bring it to the table when it's time to lay their chips down. It will be interesting to see just how long the faithful in Austin will be satisfied with going to the Holiday Bowl and San Antonio Bowl as regularly as they do. — miamimitchdotcom, Bleacher Report

Ouch

Recruiting rankings and Texas being ranked in the top 3 has got to be one of the larger myths in college football today.

Hell, over the course of the past 7 to 8 years, OU has had higher ranked classes than us in a majority of those years.

But... we don't want to confuse the leering press with facts though.

What's the San Antonio Bowl and how many times have we been there?

Fox Sports is nothing but shock value.

While I believe that Texas deserves to be on that list, number 2 is a little high. Above us for sure:

Ohio State
Oklahoma
USC
then tied with Florida/Florida State/Miami, give or take a positioin or two.
Tennessee and LSU would have to have some mention as well as Michigan. West Virginia would be in the mix, no Boise State!!!1

The list is based solely on winning percentage. Other lists and rankings are more accurate as far as success against better competition but this list is pure winning percentage.

I think some people aren't realizeing that the list is just for winning percentage, nothing else.

Additionally, if you really consider the last 10 seasons, most people forget stuff that happened a decade ago (like Tennessee winning the MNC in '98). It's easy to skew our view towards recency, as schools like USC were no better than average as recently as 2001, but its easy to forget that. For better or for worse, Texas has been a true model of consistency over the last decade, although most would agree that we've left some of the most prized hardware on the table more often than not over the last decade.

It is based on winning percentage, true.

Then the author shows his *** with the recruiting rankings comment. Why have a list based on winning % and then make that comment? It's stupid. The author is stupid. They should have someone make comments who actually knows something about college football and recruiting. Instead they let an idiot write the comments.

What is our record against the other teams on that list during the time frame in question, 7-7? Not bad. I'd like to see how the others stack up.

it's a good list. i am surprised that we are that high considering it counts the 98 and 99 season. shows me two things:

1. ou has been very strong since 2000.
2. every team has some ups and downs. the fact there is not but two teams ahead of us in games won in a decade where we had seasons with 6, 5, and 4 losses..... shows me we (both ut and ou) are very lucky to have the staffs we do.

Titling it 'The Top 10' is just stupid.

Why didn't they just title the list for what it is:
The 10 Winningest Programs in the Last Decade.

Then, most of the rest of the comments apply.

Thanks Bob. I think those rankings are similar to our AP rankings. Thus, we don't underachieve. It is just a lie to say that Mack Brown gets the best recruits every year and then conclude that he underachieves each year he fails to win the MNC.

Thanks!

I did this spreadsheet last year, of the top 10 recruiters, per Rivals. I only went back 5 years, because those were the kids that were playing. We finished 14th this past year. I only included N/D because I love to see them fail. I was/am, just sick and tired of the media calling Mack "Mr February", and not able to coach the talent. This "Mitch" guy, is a moron writer, who did no research to back his analysis! Looks to me like Florida St and LSU should fight USC every year for the MNC, while Texas and Ohio St should be hind tit.

Sorry to rant guys, but I just can't stand the title "Mr February", and writers saying he can't coach. It is hard to swallow the big games we have lost, but it is a lot better than steady 8-4 seasons. I STILL have dreams of besting the straight years streak Florida St had as a final Top 5 team.
