Too many offensive mistakes

We all know about the error on the double play comebaker. But there were couple other very glaring mistakes that we made last night.

1. When you are down a run, in the 8th, with a new pitcher coming in, You never, ever, ever swing at the 1st pitch. I sure hope that hitter missed a take sign. I've seen a lot of complaining about us taking too many 1st pitches, which may or may not be justified. But in this instance, What in the world are we thinking? We have a new pitcher, we have the tying and go ahead runs on base, late in a game. See at least 1 pitch. That late in the game you might even take 2 strikes. But swinging at the 1st pitch is inexcuseable.

2. When on 3rd with less than 2 outs and no force at home, you MUST see the ball through on the left side. That is just bad baserunning. It would have been closer at the plate if the runner waited until the 3B threw it to 1st or 2nd and then broke for home and forced the 1B to make a good throw.

3. If we are so good at bunting, where is the safety squeeze or even a suicide squeeze with less than 2 outs? For that matter, where are the bunts for base hits?

We have got to be smarter on offense or we are toast tonight.

My take on two was where the 3B caught the ball. It looked like the runner was in a no win situation. I think the 3B could have easily tagged the runner had he went back to third. I may be wrong, that was what I thought I saw.

I dont remember how far the runner was from third, but provided he was in a position to get back if need be, he could have taken a step or two toward home, made the 3rd baseman look at him, hopefully long enough that a throw to second wasn't available and his only throw is to first. At least then we have runners on 2nd and 3rd.

I saw what major saw. The third baseman caught that ball very close to the bag. Going back would have resulted in an easy tag out.
