Tonight's State of the Union Address

If I were the speech writer, I would limit discussion about policy (lockdown, mandates, higher energy and food prices, etc.) . When Biden address these things you get the typical one half of the theater (Democrats) standing, and the other half (Republicans) remaining seated. Instead you make the entire focus on Putin and Russia. Obviously this should be the main focus, but it also necessary politically for Biden to get a boost in the polls.

For example, I expect him to invoke lines such as "our democratic experiment is under attack by a country led by a dangerous and unstable man, Vladimir Putin," "Russia is launching a global campaign against freedom and human rights," and "we must come together as a nation - Democrat and Republican - to combat this great evil." Then both sides of the aisle will stand and shout USA! USA! USA!

And all is again good. Can you see it any other way?

And the media analysts will applaud Biden stepping up and taking on the serious challenge of Vladimir Putin and making an appeal to unite the nation.

While there are elements of the Russia/Ukraine conflagration which need to be addressed, the masses would be happiest for him to announce that he is ending the import of Russian oil and, to accommodate this change, restrictions on domestic drilling are being removed. Further, that to aid our allies, he is encouraging more coal production as well as natural gas production so that our allies are not inconvenienced any more than necessary.

He needs to be indicating that steps ARE being taken to avoid dragging the US into WW III. We cannot fight a war on two fronts...if we get dragged into the Ukraine, then China is going to Taiwan. And we have an obligation to Taiwan that does not exist with Ukraine.

You may be correct about much of the public perception, but the media presentation and analysis will be as I said. If not, Biden has some poor speech writers.

Agree. Americans are universally opposed to this Russian aggression so Ukraine is all I'd want to talk about today if I was president. Focus on how Biden is hurting Russia with sanctions, avoiding WW3, and working with other nations that disapprove of Russia.

Even if the US viewed the Budapest Memorandum as a treaty, there's more vested interest in saving Taiwan over Ukraine just in semiconductors.

Increasing domestic oil and gas production are no where on this administration's radar. There is absolutely no chance this is what he will say. We governed by Woke Ideology, there is no room for fossil fuels for any reason. He is more likely to call for more money to be funneled into wind and solar to switch the military to them quicker. Which of course would be a disaster.

First he would have to start taking steps to avoid WW3 in order to make that statement. If the plan is to escalate, which so far has been the path for everyone, WW3 is a real possbility.

Agree that Biden should stick to talking about Ukraine vs Russia. He won't get much opposition on that. But hurting the Russian people with sanctions doesn't help us avoid WW3. It just makes poor people poorer. I think all other nations except for China are already against Russia. He can boast about that even if he had nothing to do with it.
