Tonight -- no TV for me! Aughhh!

I am house-sitting in a home that has just basic cable. This means no Rangers game on the tube for me.

I know, I know ... just watch the game at my home and then go over to the house-sitting house, right? But that violates my contract with the homeowner to be there during the evening hours. I made an agreement to be there with the pets.

So I will be listening to Eric Nadel and Dave Barnett on MLB.com's AtBat 2010 on my iPhone (and obviously not posting, fellow zealots). Lucky for me Eric and Dave are excellent announcers -- listening to Eric is almost like seeing the game, IMO. Love that guy!

What you might not know about Eric Nadel is that he taught himself Spanish so that he could broadcast baseball games on a Spanish-language station earlier in his career. He's a hell of a hockey play-by-play guy, too.
And downright funny.

I was recently in my car during a game and had a great time listening to the game on the radio. Those guys do a great job. One thing for sure, you will be able to visualize the uni's that each team is wearing because Eric goes into great detail to explain. Love his calls.

Keep the mojo going.

Well, I'm watching on Fox SW, and so far, apparently I'm not cheering hard enough. The offense is just not getting it done. There is no good reason why the Rangers should not score a bunch of runs - but trailing 3-2 so far tonight.

I closed out of MLB.com to check e-mails and such, hoping that it might change the luck. Sadly, it doesn't appear to be working.

nadel was quite a good hockey play by play guy too...mid-late 70s he called the dallas blackhawk games for a couple of yrs, then switched to the ftw texans for their lone championship season in 1977-78....can still hear the game winning OT goal by nadel on a tape the texans sold...was at the game of course, that was a great series. 7 games...

as soon as i hit enter, i just recalled nadel was calling play by play for dallas that year...the texans didn't broadcast games so the tape sold was the hawk's broadcast...i think nadel did the texans games in 1979-80 (or so)

I met Eric when he did PBP for the 'Hawks. After the games, everyone went out drinking together -- players, fans, front office, radio talent. We'd go to The Mad Hatter in North Dallas, where the DJ would play oldies music and such. We'd stand around drinking and asking each other television trivia questions.

I remember once that Eric stumped everyone with this question: "Where was Lassie born?" We guessed LA, Bel Aire, San Diego, New York, Miami -- every place we could think of where a famous TV dog might have been born. Then Eric says, "Give up?" and we all said yeah. He waited a couple of beats and then said, "Colleyville!"

We made him buy the next round.
