Tom Herman has tied Charlie Strong for all time wins as a Texas head coach.

Tom Herman: 16-9
Charlie Strong: 16-21

Herman has a chance to surpass Charlie Strong this Saturday.

Humm, 10-2 followed up by 7-5 this year so he seems to be well on his way to a solid 5-7 season next year with a pretty pathetic schedule.

I'd say it's ok to continue the Charlie talk as long as we are paying him to ruin the USF program too. Are we still paying for him? If so, anyone know how much longer?

Yes we pay him. I believe this is the last year of the 5 year deal. Three years here and two at SF.

We guaranteed him $5 million. We pay him 5M - his U S F salary.

Is Charlie paying rent for the space he takes up in your head? ;)

Actually, when looking up UT coaching records and conference titles on the Mack Brown UNC thread discussion with @ShAArk92 (which was more focussed on DKR, Brown, Akers and even Blair Cherry), I noticed that Herman had tied Charlie Strong for wins and found it noteworthy.

Records after two seasons since DKR:

Fred Akers: 20-4 0.833

Mack Brown: 18-8 0.692

DKR: 13-7-1 0.643

Tom Herman*: 16-9 0.640

John Mackovic: 11-10-1 0.523

David McWilliams: 11-12 0.478

Charlie Strong: 11-14 0.440

Strong was the worst head coach in the history of Texas football.

I don’t think he occupies any space in anyone’s head. Much more like the stank a skunk leaves. You know the skunk has left, but you still smell the stank.

18-9 would past DKR and almost tie with MB

Ref akers .... I could have been Coach Gunsmoke 15 years earlier if I'd been old enough ...

94 Cowboys and the 77 Horns ...

Give it to Earl. but I've already beat this horse to death.

I actually think Akres was underrated. Yes, he had Earl in 1978 but he used him better than DKR did the year prior, primarily running Earl from the I with a FB in front.

Although SabreHorn is really the expert in such matters, in an era of rampant cheating and payola, Akers did extremely well. I wanted to see him removed when he was but in hindsight, it was probably a bad decision. I think his heavy emphasis on defense at the expense of seemingly any offense turned folks off. But his record was impressive.

Almost tie the coach who just accepted a job at North Carolina?
Mack Brown won?
You would never know it reading some of the disrespect shown on some posts.
We have had one great coach in 40 years.
He accepted a job at his old employer. Hope the best for MB.
We have a guy that is bringing those feelings from 02,03
I’m buying. Suffered some bad losses, but talent kept coming in.
Sounds familiar. Several freshman playing early.
