Today's OSU Press Conference

1/2 game suspension should be awarded. Riley taunts alot after games also. Kudos to Erneshia Willams for not retaliating.

After reviewing the alleged incident where Andrea Riley reportedly took a swing at a Texas player, Big 12 officials have ruled the OSU sophomore is eligible to play in Saturday's championship game.

"After gathering and reviewing information, the commissioner has handled the situation internally per the conference's policies and procedures," said Joni James, associate director of communications for the Big 12. "There will be no public announcement."

Oklahoma State coach Kurt Budke said he was not allowed to comment on the ruling. Fox Sports showed a replay of the incident in which Riley appears to take a swing at a Texas player while going for a loose ball in the second half of the Cowgirls' 75-72 win.

Riley could have faced a one-game suspension.

Oklahoma State coach Kurt Budke said before the ruling that he didn't see a punch thrown.

After that charge got called on Texas in the final seconds Rileys hould have been given a technical for taunting.
However, I do like her fiestiness and her attitude. She may do some dirty things, but it works for her. She is a diva with an attitude.

I love the nice girls we have like Brittainey and Earnesia, but maybe we could use someone more like Andrea. EBay used to be like that, but Coach G has told her to stop this season.

Caught on tape and nothing happens???? That stinks.

I want to win like anyone else, but if it takes having players do things like that at UT, I would probably stop attending. Poor sportmanship ruins the game.

It is now Coach Budke's decsion -- seems like Coach G sat one of our players mid-season for conduct that she felt did not represent UT wbb in a positive light. I like scrapiness, determination, heart, etc -- but thug type play is dangerous. There are enough injuries in this sport without brawling behavior. There is no place for taunting.

The players have to know there is a line -- if the coach doesn't make that clear, anything goes.

What coach of OSU? Kurt Budke is not the coach of OSU. Andrea Riley is. She runs what she wants to on offense not what plays are called. And did you all watch the press conference on the Big 12 website after the OSU/Texas semifinal? He started off by saying "Andrea wanted me to say that she had six rebounds"...

Sounds like the Big 12 wants her playing in the championship game to better showcase the conference. Not sure I agree with that. Rewarding bad behaviour rarely works out well in the long run. I guess it all depends on what "handled it internally" really means (probably zip).

How quickly you all forget. Have you all forgot about the incident last year when Tiffany Jackson definitely threw a punch at another player? I didn't see any of you calling for her head. But oh, that's right. She plays for our team.

I am incredibly disappointed in Andrea's actions. She is a very fine young lady and an incredible basketball player. To call a young person a "punk", etc. is disgusting at best. These are young women who are playing in a very very competitive situation. Mistakes are made.

Yes, she has an attitude. Most good players do. Some perceive it as arrogance, but most of us who have been athletes understand it is a confidence thing.

Knowing what kind of person Andrea is, I can guarantee you she will make amends for what she did. She doesn't owe any of us an apology. I feel quite confident that handilng it "internally" means dealing with the players involved. I can accept that and you should to.

Well Rexy - I'm quite sure they don't care if you don't like it LOL. That is what makes everything so interesting in sports.

well, yes, of course, i'm well aware that the athletes couldn't care less about me - LOL to you too. That doesn't mean though, that I can't/shouldn't express my opinion on this message board.

C. Davis had a rep that put fear in many opponents. I had the pleasure of talking to an aggy ex player that went against Davis. Throughout the league she was known as the meanest player on the court. I always liked C. Davis. And yes, because she was a longhorn, I excuse a lot of her actions. o(s)u sucks!

WeRTexas,
I completely agree. I love to see players that play with fire and passion. I do not like to see taunting, dirty play or demeaning attitude - I didn't like Latta, I don't like Riley, I don't like Candace Parker, and there are others whose attitude and actions mar what I think is great talent.

I do however, very much enjoy watching Sylvia Fowles. Her talent is amazing and I've never see her taunt or act out in any way.

I guess I'm just too old fashioned. I want to see the talent on the floor without the histrionics.

Well, I was there to see Riley smack E-Dub....and it was mean....and it was VERY intentional, I assure you of that.

The fact that the NCAA people did NOTHING is very lame as well.

However, Riley got her come-uppance last night...she tried to do it all, was a complete ball hog, and they lost....

And yes, Texas has ALWAYS stood for class....Jody made sure of that, and I am glad to see that Gail plays that way, too.

We can win without resorting to dirty tactics and classless players, just look at Gail's record to know that is true....

Go, Texas, hope to see you in Baton Rouge!!

Please spare me the Jody stood for all that class stuff. In many ways she did. However, Tiffany did throw a punch and received no punishment at all. And, as mentioned by Orangehoops, Clarissa did deck a player when she played, albeit in an ABL game.

I am not excusing Andrea's behavior in any way. But to call young women punks, hoods, etc. is in very poor taste. You don't know her as a person and can only make judgments about her basketball personality.

How interesting that all of you choose to turn the other cheek to Tiffany's punch and yet crucify someone for doing it to one of our players. Andrea was wrong, plain and simple. But to judge her whole character and label her a hood and punk is ridiculous at best and doesn't speak very well to your character as an adult. Enough said.

I don't remember Tree ever taking a swing at anyone. And it's hard to imply any hypocrisy on Texas' part when Gail suspended one of our players for less than what Riley did.

In reply to:

"All" and "crucify" are words that tend to fan a flame. I do not like to see players displaying their anger in inappropriate ways at any level. I also know that the juices are really going when players are playing hard. I hope all our players learn to harness whatever energy they get from playing into more focus and more intensity. I also think that appropriate discipline needs to be inacted by the COACH. Let the punishment fit the action. Having a kid who is not controllilng the emotion and using it in appropriate ways take a "time out" is one way to reinforce the behavior rules. A game suspension shows that the coach means business.
