Toads tiring of Patterson.............

I did not realize that Patterson had been at TCU 21 years. Thought it was an interesting article until I read this, "SMU head coach Sonny Dykes could be the main target for the Horned Frogs. In his fifth season with the Broncos, Dykes has them ranked in the top 25 and at 7-0." SMU Broncos....hmmm.

With that simple mistake, perhaps Bruce Feldman does not have all his facts straight.

Even with that typo (being generous), why would Sonny Dykes leave SMU for TCU? Is the Big 12 without Texas or OU going to that big of a draw for top level recruits?

If Dykes has a choice between TCU and Tech, I bet he goes to Tech--if he leaves SMU at all. Simply because he lived there for so long, and his family is legend out there. Most folks (like 95%) would chose to live in Ft Worth over Lubbock, but Dykes is a special situation due to his personal and family history out there.

Yeah, I heard the Tech/Briles rumor a few days ago too.

As far as TCU goes, I suppose Briles does have experience coaching at a “Christian” University... :rolleyes1: Both what's left of the religious, and also the feminist/faculty, segment of the TCU crowd would probably seriously balk at Briles. Of course, he would win games, and bring in lots of athletic dept revenue...

And Tech is probably pushing BYU for the title of least feminist college in the country, and they don’t have a religious affiliation, so they may not have as many scruples about hiring Briles out there. I dunno???

I personally think they’d be much better off if they could get Dykes.

When Spike was alive, we used to discuss Sonny and his future - things like I told Spike to have Sonny interview for the UVA job for the experience of interviewing with an east coast school, but by no means take the job; no administration support, don't take care of their players, politically correct nightmare.

Sonny has likely already been offered the VT job, which is an end to his coaching career. I sincerely hope Sonny gives it no consideration.

As tight as the Dykes family is in Lubbock, I don't think Sonny will go back with all the negative publicity about the car dealerships. (Let me be clear, I consider all the Dykes family friends, and would fully support them.)

Is TCU an upgrade from SMU without the current Big XII? What is a better fit?

This is huge. And in the middle of the year!

While he was certainly a thorn in our side, I must begrudgingly admire Patterson’s ability to kick our butts often and with much lower rated recruits.

Patterson ends his TCU career with six conference titles. Royal is the only Texas coach to have six or more conference titles.
