In this speech, he had been blasting Barack Obama for all things real and imagined. Then where this clip begins Santorum continues "We know the candidate Barack Obama...what he was like. The anti-war, government nig... (insert stumble here)."

Oh my.

Maybe he meant to say "Blah people" again? Then Santorum awkwardly attempts to continue with some other thought bubble that hatched in his head. (The original video of the speech is available here. The remarks in question take place at about 34:50.)

Meanwhile, Santorum's campaign staff are searching desperately for a word that starts with "nig" that sounds plausible:

“Oh, come on!” Santorum spokesman Hogan Gidley told Raw Story when asked for comment. “Give me a break. That’s unbelievable. What does it say about those that are running with this story that that’s where their mind goes. You know, I’m not going to dignify that with [a response].”

“That is absolutely ridiculous.”

EDITOR'S NOTE: The other slip here was to call the man who killed Osama "anti-war." Obama anti-war?! Rick must be thinking of some other blah person

Wow. You can't be serious. "Let's go to "the tape"? Really? That was supposed to be Santorum almost calling Obama a "government nigger" before catching himself? It defies all comprehension. But when you see the world through racist-colored glasses I guess every sneeze, cough, twitch, or hiccup can be interpreted that way.

Unfortunately, when you point to evidence like this to back up claims of racism, it really undermines your slightly less illegitimate claims.

First, please provide a link to at least 2 "national news" sources. Please note that blogs, partisan e-magazines, and local newspapers do not count as national news sources.

Secondly, since you seem to be sure enough that Santorum intended to call Obama a nigger in full public view to start a discussion about it, please finish his sentence for him. What would the rest of that sentence have sounded like had Santorum failed to "catch himself"?

I found this comment from someone who read the article particularly telling. Some of you may as well.

I don’t know if any of you grew up with a racist mom, but I’ve DEFINITELY heard the term “government nigger” before. It means someone who relies on welfare, does drugs or engages in some kind of questionable activity, and is bad at managing money (also a popular quote at my place, “spending like a nigger”) and bad at parenting. they’re those people FOX News went around interviewing and trying to outsmart to prove that Obama’s voters only wanted a black President.
