Tmobile G1 Phone

Is anyone going to get this new "google" phone when it comes out? Its going to be the first tmobile phone running on a 3g network, with a bigger, brighter touchscreen and supposedly equal to or more features than the I-Phone.

Rumors are the pre-sale is going to be Sept. 17th and launch is Oct. 13th.

Im not usually a gadget geek, but my phone just broke and I need one anyway. Well the pre-sale is going to have a rediculously cheap price of $150 for certain T-Mobile customers who qualify, at lauch they are going to be $450-$500. I called and I am eligible for the upgrade so I going to do it.

But has anyone heard anything about this phone? Is it supposed to be good?

dude. you've piqued my interest.

i maybe eligible for pre-sale. (i've been a 5+ year t-mo customer. no upgrades. out of contract last 4 years.) for $150, i'd jump all over an android phone, especially for as open as it is. it seems very easy to extend too. where can i get more info on this? any good web sites?

i've always wanted to program a when-did-i-last-call this person type app and remind me when i haven't called someone for X number of days (where the value of X is set separately for each phonebook entry).

You should be good, the rumor is you have to be a customer for 22 months to be eligible. Ive been w/ tmobile for about 26 and the tmobile customer service rep said I qualified.

Just google the phone, there isnt solid info, but what I posted seems to be the consensus among the bloggers/websites. And the last article I read said the 3G network at launch will probably only be available in Houston, Las Vegas, & New York, with others following by the end of the year.

yeah, i googled and found this:The Link

most other articles are basically the same. let's hope more info comes out soon.

btw, i think the price of the unit will remain low pre-launch for or post-launch for qualified and new customers. they are going to definitely use the iphone model: subsidize the unit, charge tons for monthly data service. plus, they'll have to undercut the price of the iphone by $50 (even from day #1) to overcome the ju-ju of the apple/ipod/iphone brand.

based on the info i've learned from you and the web sites in the last last 10-15 minutes, i don't see the price of the G1 being above $150-200 mark except for under contract t-mo customers who've upgraded in the past 22 months.

Ya, I hope the price really is that low. Now I just need to find a damn replacement phone for the next month or so!

go to wallyworld or target and buy a t-mo prepaid phone for $40. your old sim will work in that phone.

eric, I have my backup (original TMobil phone from when I first signed up) that I don't use. You can use it till you get the G if you like. It is collecting dust but works just fine. It is clunky but never failed me.

I think I will qualify for the upgrade as I have not upgraded my phone since Dec. 2004, just before the trip to the VY Rose Bowl. I qualify for crazy mad discounts and stuff so I assume I can get that too. Badass if I can...and I will.

Why do you not like by far the best customer service industry wide and fewer dropped calls nationwide than any other network (this per latest reports)? And now the superior smart phone making an iphone last years toy.
