Titans suck at Free Agency

I'm going to chalk Crumpler up to luck. After watching the Titans the past two seasons, it's been very frustrating how slow they are to move or spend money. I know it's their game plan to let people make foolish decisions and spend a lot of money the first week of FA, but players they should be contending for are getting signed, and their free agents are leaving.

Antwan Odom and his backup Travis LaBoy are testing the market, Odom may have already signed somewhere else by this point.

One of their very good lineman, Jacob Bell is on the cusp of signing with the Rams...

What the hell is their GM doing? I know the receivers of this years crop are mostly #2s, but that would still be an upgrade from what they have now, Stallworth would have been good, Berrian would have been good. Instead they're probably going to end up signing DJ Hackett who has "David Givens" written on him.

They don't spend draft picks on WR's either. They'll probably spend a first round pick to help fill a hole left by one of their departing free agents and then pick a RB in the second round for 4th time in 5 years or something like that...

I'm frustrated...spend some money Bud. Give Vince some help instead of letting his two leading receivers from the year before leave, and now his offensive line.

I'm holding out hope that they put a trade package together for the good Roy Williams so at least the Lions can get something for him before he hits the open market next season...

Early rumors in the off season were that they were shopping him for 2nd round picks. If that is at all true, that is a steal. Trade the 2nd round pick for him and take a receiver (for once) in the first round.

Dude, I've stopped bitching about it because it is useless. Mike Reinfeldt has to be the absolute worst GM in the league. Another year down the tubes.

Yeah, I wish they were like those other teams that are signing guys... The 49ers, the Cardinals, the Bengals, the Vikings..... Man, if only the Titans were good at free agency like those guys.

The Titans though aren't ****** like the other teams you listed. On offense they're just a playmaker or two away from being pretty good. They run the ball very well, they just need receivers who can separate and catch the ball. If Minnesota drafts a WR like a lot of people are thinking, they'll have a pretty young good WR core to go with their running game. Too bad they don't have a qb.

I doubt the Lions move Roy, but that would be amazing to see him in a Titans uniform. A receiver who can catch about anything, along with Crumpler, should really help Vince's stats.

Very frustrating the the Titans have all this $$$ and sit on it. They have the ablilty in be a player and get some better talent on this team but they dont want to over pay. it sux to not upgrade. Crumpler is good and will help. Hope they re-sign Bell and Odom.
Last year they didnt sign any big time guy and VY was hot so there had to have been guys that wanted to play with him. This year there are our guys and other guys that we can get but we dont. GM is one of the worst but i think he is there for salary cap purposes. easy job if you dont sign anyone. They have the ability to get 2-3 very good talented guys that can help the team right now with the 35+ mill available. i am not saying spend it all but still......guess next year Titans will have 30+ mill to spend when most teams are broke.

Please dont sign Hackett.

The Titans do not believe in free agency. They prefer to pick up players off of waivers, then you very much.

The Titans much like the Packers and Steelers don't build their team thru FA. They focus on the draft and developing their players. Its far more economical that way.

The sad thing is that they are just a few players away from really being super bowl contenders. They just won't quiet get enough help for Vince.

The Patriots, Packers, Colts, Chargers, Cowboys and Giants were built mostly through the draft... except for a few pieces here and there.

The Redskins were built through free agency.

By a few small pieces you must mean players like randy moss, terrel owens, leonard davis, stallworth...i agree that a majority of your team needs to be built through the draft, but sometimes it's necessary to go after a big time player in free agency when given the chance. Look how picking up TO has sparked the boys offense. the pats just resigned Moss after stealing him from the raiders. The Titans need to make better acquisitions than just through the draft: free agency, trades, anything.

I didn't even see that last line of your initial post...thought it was just your tag line...

I thought my day was off to a good start.

It's not about building a team through free agency. You build your team through the draft. You supplement your team through free agency.

And part of free agency is retaining those players you drafted. The Titans don't seem very good at that.

"The Patriots, Packers, Colts, Chargers, Cowboys and Giants were built mostly through the draft... except for a few pieces here and there. "

Patriots = Randy Moss, Wes Welker, stallworth
Packers = No big signings, but until last season it wasn't exactly successful
Colts = Definitely working for the Colts
Chargers = Added the #1 receiver they needed in Chambers
Cowboys = Added the #1 receiver they needed in TO
Giants = Added the #1 receiver they needed in Plaxico

I think it shows that there a few special organizations such as the Colts that can pull off the "draft & develop" strategy with success, but for the most part, everyone but the Titans seems to realize you need to drop the $$ to get that one playmaker receiver to get you over the hump.... In this league that 1 playmaker can be the difference IMO.

It's Bud Adams.

He's doing the same thing he did in Houston with the Oilers. That leopard will never change his spots.

Right after Bud moved the Oilers to Tennessee, I got off of a plane in Nashville, and a skycap picked up my golf clubs. When I tipped him, I said "I'm about to make you the smartest man in Nashville." He said "How's that??" I said "Tell all your friends to start hating Bud Adams now." He gave me a funny look then, but I'll bet that he totally understands it now.
