Tires on my Jeep

Okay I have a 1999 Jeep Wrangler Sport that I want to put 31X10.50 R15 tires on. I have read and heard that this size will go on stock Jeep without needing any kind of lift (just don't have the money) but I have read that "proper wheel offset is crucial" and I don't know what that is refering too. I also currently have the Jeep Grizzly wheels that came on my Jeep when I bought it, will I need to buy different wheels or can I put the 31x10.50s on these? Any help is great, anyone who has done this or is currently driving a Jeep with this size tires or even recomendations on what brand to buy (some might be kinda pricey but I would like to here about some options I might not have read about yet). Anyways, thanks for the help.

What they're referring to is wheel backspacing. Since the outer edge of the tire will stick out more, it might rub on your fender. The tires probably need to be more "tucked in" under the vehicle since they're bigger.

Google up some Jeep forums. Car forums are great for this kind of stuff. You probably won't even have to register, just search the past topics. I'm sure it's been covered hundreds of times before.

31x10.5s will fit absolutely fine on a stock Wrangler... at the very worst you might get some minor rubbing when at full turn... if this does happen you can put some washers in to extend your bump stop whereby eliminating the problem...

I've got a 2003 TJ and put some 31x10.5s on my rig in December... I got the Kumho MTs... I'd highly recommend looking into the Kumho tires.. you can get a great deal on them from tirerack.com ... I also got new wheels for the rig.. for these I went to Discount Tire and got some black steelies... only cost me $34 each for some 15x8s and with the better backspacing the wheels sit nice and wide... only down side is that the fender flares don't keep mud/water off the side of the Jeep...

I'd suggest checking outThe Link ... great site that I joined even before buying my Jeep...

oh.. and here is a pic of my rig with the 31s on there..

GOO..
HA.. your Ram can't go 1/2 the places a TJ can go... these little boogers are bad *** on the trail... tight spaces, steep inclines, deep water/mud... these suckers are built for off-road..

head-on I might survive.. that big beast you drive would probably rip me through my seatbelt and straight out of the vehicle... now from the side I'd be toast...

Nothin' like a little 4x4 machismo...my Cherokee's Manik brushguard is designed to deposit deer carcasses into the roof rack for cleaning.
I went oversized, and have a little rub at max turn.
I'm eventually going with a Rubicon Express 2" lift. Cheap.

damn i miss my jeep. some bastard took it for a joy ride and it was found in a lake. i had some 31's on it and I didn't have to do anything to it. there was a little rubbing when turning it all the way.

** big jeep wave back **

Hey fellas thanks for the info and the links. I like the way those black wheels look with the tires, I might end up doing that to my TJ. I can't wait till I get it done. Should be anyday now.

I drive a '91 YJ-lifted, etc (www.texmexjeepin.com)

ldogg53's comments are correct. 31x10.5x15 is a common size for TJ's. 31's are about as tall of a tire that you'd want to go on stock gearing. With that said...let the Jeep modification begin.
