Tipping question.

I know, I know but this one is a little different.

I am having a tv delivered tomorrow. I ordered it off Amazon. The guy delivering it will have only had contact with it a couple of hours since it is already in Austin and has been since Friday night. It is scheduled before 12.

Do I tip this guy when he brings it to my door? I have seven steps to the porch and that's it. It is not white glove service so they are not going to hook it up or dial it in. I will do that.

Do I sign for it and say thanks or do I need to give them five bucks or something? Does the retail price of the set have anything to do with it if I tip? I have not had an item like this delivered through the mail before. I see it as different than having an appliance delivered from a store in your city. There they had it the whole process.

What say y'all?

Seven different Mamba's for seven steps and he will gratefully leave with seven mamba syndrome and be happy to get away; tip or not...But, trap seven rats to feed your mambas...Cheaper than a tip!

So you are saying to ensure there are TV or Step Mambas and if he lives through it he gets five bucks?

I guess I'm a big *******, but it never would have occurred to me to tip a TV delivery guy. I've never had a tv delivered, did you have any option about the delivery (I think that is the lynchpin for why I don't tip at Sonic)?

I've never tipped appliance or furniture delivery/repair guys but I once had guys who had a clip board with several one dollar bills prominently displayed on it to suggest a tip was appropriate.

No tip. I would add loop, that it's very generous of you to consider tipping, but no tip.

His job is to deliver your electronics safely and promptly. I always tip servers 20% minimum if they take care of me and 10% if they don't take care of me; they rely on tips. But delivery guys, movers, repairmen, etc., they are getting paid an hourly wage. He's just doing his job. It may suck if he makes minimum wage, but that's his career choice.

Thanks all.

I have the tv and he does not have a tip. If he would have read the book that comes with the tv to get it going he could have gotten a tip.

I have to now exercise restraint and patience. I want to move a desk to where the tv used to be and put this tv where the desk is. Each have cable connections next to them. But I need a buddy to help lift the old tv off the stand, take components off, clean it and move. Same process with desk, then move them.

THEN I can hook up the new tv, dial it in and go from there. I really want to just shove the old tv off the entertainment stand and hook up the new one telling myself that I will make the switch around over the weekend. I know myself better than that but this apple looks so big and tasty to watch. And the serpent in my mind makes a good argument.

What to do, what to do?

Nice, planohorn and well, yeah, sort of. My neighbor is going to come over on his lunch break and I am going to have tacos from Mi Madre's for him. I also helped him move a Fridge the other weekend. He is going to help me move my new one in next week so I don't want to confuse the favors so he gets tacos for this!
