Tipping in Vegas question.

I understand tipping dealers at the tables, but what is the protocol on tipping the person who brings you your money on a big slot payout? If you hit a royal flush on video poker, are you expected to tip the employee who brings you the 4 grand?

You don't have to but $20 would be nice. I worked at a casino for a while and the slot people would get a tip about half the time one hit.

actually the slot people are good to ask. There are some machines that for whatever reason pay out more than they are supposed to. The slot techs would take apart the machines, find nothing wrong, put them back together and they would continue to pay out more than they took in. We would then sell them to other casinos.

My wife hit a $500 winner the last time we were in Vegas and I gave the change person a $20 tip.

The newer machines in Vegas are doing away with money payouts, however, and replacing them with paper printouts showing you how much you have won or had remaining as a balance when you cashed out. You then take the slip to the cashier's booth to cash out.

Yeah, I've seen them fancy new ones. Call me old fashioned, but I like to hear "clunk clunk clunk clunk clunk" when I hit the cash out button. Thanks for the replies.

I once hit a royal flush playing video poker in the Vegas airport, but I'd only bet $.25. Still paid out like $500.

I played video poker non stop for 18 hours. I was so delirous when I hit the royal, i hit deal and it dealt me five new cards before I could select them.

I did hit four of a kind this year for an $800 payout.

DLev,
I do exactly what you do. I've never seen anyone tip at the blackjack table as a % of each win. Occaistionally if I had a real good run, and the dealer was cool, I'll throw another 5-10 bucks as I'm leaving.

I generally play $10-$15 blackjack tables and assuming the dealer isn't an ***, I'll play a $5 hand for them every 10 hands or so.

I used to tip dealers at BJ, but once they went to those auto shuffle things I have stopped. I figure they are basically just a computer now. I used to think they way they suffled could make a big difference on how the shoe plays out (no doubt it can), but auto-shuffle nullifies all that.

I will still tip on a big score, though.

i tip at the black jack table every 4 or 5 hands. when i get a blackjack i usually throw a tip out there.

but i don't know why i do. it seems like the casinos should just pay their dealers where they shouldn't rely on tips to make a good wage. the casinos are guaranteed to make money. i am pretty much guaranteed to lose money. they should be the ones with the burden to pay their dealers.

On my one and only mindblowing streak on the craps table I put $20 on the Yo for the crew and $20 for myself and hit it back to back! I prefer to place bets for the crew during play and then tip out at the end. I am sure they would prefer cash....

That one time I rolled for 20 minutes and turned $60 into just over $2000, and reinvigorated the late night crowd on the boat. Funny thing was they were trying to shut our table down before my streak.

I was screwing around one morning and hit a slot machine for $1500. The lady came to pay out and I took my money and said thanks. Well my dad was with me and said that I should have given the lady a tip.

I was bewildered. What did they do?

Anyhow, he hit for $1000 on the same machine the next morning and gave the lady $20.

In blackjack I'll usually give the dealer a tip if I have a good run going, and if I have done well or had a good time I'll give them one when I'm leaving.
