What's the difference between a
SA 8300DVR and a SA 8240HDC?

Which is the latest model or more preferable?

haven't had TW for a few months now, but i had the 8240HDC. that was the newest one, and it had TONS of problems. i had to reset it all the time and they had to continually send firmware updates. don't know about the other one.
