Time Warner DVR Box Question

I was lookin at my box last night while I was on the phone and I saw that there is a USB port on the front of the box. I was just curious if I could hook it up to my computer and rip **** off the HD that the stuff I tape is saved on. I would think that I could just plug it in and XP would read it like an external HD and let me open it and see what is on it. Just curious if anybody else has thought of/tried this and what the outcome was. Thanks.

Who makes the box? Is it motorola or Scientific Atlanta or somebody else?

If it's motorolla like my Comcast one, you should be able to find instuctions on how to to it on the interent, as the motorolla website had a link to instrustions on how to do this.

If it's another one you should start on their website or go to "avsforum" I think it is called and see what is there.

For the motorolla I believe you have to hook it up and download some software to the box to make it work.

if it's scientific atlanta..say the 8000HD...then it's not for anything currently. They put it there...but until they release a firmware upgrade it doesn't do anything. According to the TW tech I spoke with.
