Time Warner at it Again: Comedy Central to go Dark

It would seem that the folks at Time Warner are doing everything in their power to chase away their customers. This time finagling over what amounts to 23 cents per customer per month with Viacom. MTV, Comedy Central, Nick and 16 other channels are about to go bye bye for TW subscribers.

I don't particularly want to lose these channels (at least Comedy Central and VH1) and 23 cents a month doesn't seem like such a big deal.

But, what worries me is that this 23 cent increase applies to only these 11 channels. What happens to my bill when the other 900 channels come looking for a few extra pennies each?

That said, I admit the argument that these channels are undervalued based on viewship seems reasonable.

Net, net - I have no idea which side is right.

Suggesting people switch doesn't help much when some people can't get Grande where they live.

TWC bugs me for many other reasons besides this. I wish there *was* a better option than switching to a dish

Switching to AT&T Uverse after the the KXAN debacle was the best decision I've made recently. Seriously 100x better than TWC.

I will not miss MTV or VH1...my roomate loooooves to watch junk like The Hills and Rock of Love: Charm School, so I look forward to a semester without that crap.

However, losing Comedy Central really blows. Nickelodeon too, because I love me some Cosby Show.

Man, I'm glad the Houston area was paroled from their BS. Comcast isn't great but it's better (or at least has been, so far) than TW.

i'd only be missing comedy central, and i'm not prepared for this.

i'm sick and tired of TW not keeping us happy at their cost

I rarely watch any of those channels anymore. I can live without it, I guess.

I adamantly DO NOT want a dish.

It's hard to decide which greedy ******** are the greediest ********. Those channels sell advertising and TWC provides value to them just delivering the channels to my home. If we have to start paying for content I've enjoyed for just watching the commercials, I can see it opening the doors for some Jerry Jones type business people to seriously working to get regular monthly payments from me .

Let me quote Kornheiser. "Be a man. Get a DISH."

honestly, I grew up with cable, and I got DISH a few years ago when I lived in a small rural town where cable was not a realistic option. I got a DISH at that time, and can't think of a reason to change back.
The customer service is great. I have moved several times and the service switches to each new home is the easiest hook up of all utilities. Sure, I won't lie and say it doesn't go out when the weather is very bad. But the weather has to be pretty bad to go out where I live.

why would you not want to switch to dish?

since switching to dish 3 years ago, i have experienced far fewer problems than i ever did with cable.

live northern part of Metroplex, had dish for a couple of years. Every time it rained, dish went out.

I like the cable much better.

It would be nice if you could choose channels a-la-carte. I'm sure just as many people will be railing against TW for increasing their prices when they pass these fee increases through.

I had dish for the last 7yrs, but my new roomate got us cable. Cable sucks compared to what dish offers. I never had any channels go dark or had to find a place that had the nFL network. Hell of a lot cheaper too. My first dish had problems with weather, but the last few yrs, little to no problems due to weather.

can someone fill me in on OnDemand with DirecTV? from what I can tell there is no HBO OnDemand (or any other premium channel OnDemand) and that anything you want to view has to be downloaded through your ISP? is that correct? we watch a lot of OnDemand stuff and that's been the biggest drawback in wanting to switch to DTV.

for those considering whether to switch to something else, consider if you will be moving in the near future (especially students -- i know i moved like every year).

with TWC you can just take your box with you, plug it in at the new place, and call to have them send the signal out. boom, cable & internet back on.

while i am generally happy with the product and price ($425 in rebates!!) of uverse, i recently moved and it took them 30 days to get a technician out to reconnect me. a month without cable was doable, but i'm so reliant on internet now that i definitely debated whether it was worth it. i assume a dish system would require the same type of wait.

I was puzzled too by the length of time it took ATT out to my place. Then when they got here, it took well over 4 hours, which is really weird considering the place is already wired for it. I really don't get it.

yeah, at&t techs are idiots, so I've heard. I'd like to hear more abut Uverse if anyone else has it, I got something in the mail recently on it and it looks tempting.
