Time to Jump off the Bandwagon

Go ahead I'll be here when you get back on...obviously this is the low point of the season, but don't lose heart. This team isn't going to give up and neither should we.

bandwagon or not we will all have to watch Kansas win another Big 12 title, both regular season and conference tourney. This has gotten REALLY old.

Free throws... If we make just a couple more this game is a W against a really good Baylor team. I am still on board, but this season has become hard to watch. Here's to hoping we can break out of this funk.

Im sick of watching this team continue to disapoint at the FT line.

I feel like Rick isnt taking this seriously. Instead he is blaming it on "mental error" and letting it sit idle to fix itself. Guess what Rick, that aint happening!!!!

Just fix it. These games are not losses if we make FT's. Simple as that Rick. Get it fixed. Thats all I can say. Fix it. Fix it. Fix it.

61% FT and about 35% FG today. As long as we make the FGs then that offsets the poor FT shooting. Today both bit us in the ***. These guys need to ramp it up or its going to get ugly, not that it isn't already getting there.

Does it count that I never got on in the first place? That has more to do with the fact that I generally don't like basketball though and nothing against this team. Never have liked it and likely never will. I went through a period in the 90's where I really tried to like bball but it didn't stick.

The last few mins of today's game and the overtime was the first bball I've watched all season. I think that will do me until the tournament when I've got some money on the line.

Wow, you guys are a bunch of pessimistic dudes.
Look, I hate to lose games as much as anyone, but the good news is it's basketball and they play 100 games. We still get to play Kansas, hopefully we'll beat them.
We'll be fine. Rick Barnes is not the worst coach ever like these message boards would lead you to believe. He'll work on it, we'll get better, make the tournament and hopefully have a shot. Chin up my friends.

Okay, I'll say it: the way this team is playing, we have no real chance to win the conference. Pretty amazing when you consider we were No. 1 a week ago (obviously overrated), but now have lost three of our last four games.

We are not bandwagon fans but will stick with the team no matter what. But when the team is not playing well up to its' potential then constructive criticism is in order. If we were playing as good as we could it would be different but we are missing too many free throws and wide open three pointers. As fans we suffer and support the team and have the right to give good advice. The team needs to work on free throws and a llittle more on three pointers. We should not have lost this last game on our home court.

OP I believe you are confusing "bandwagon fan" with "optimistic about the expectations for our team." Nobody who is a real fan is ever on the bandwagon, that term is reserved for "fans" who only support the team when they are winning...

patience fellas,

we went through this this past season with the football team when they came out a little "uninspired" in the first half of pretty much every game we played. but they were there with a shot to win it all at the end. hang on, it's frustrating, i agree with most of the posts above...i'm just saying all these "rick barnes is the worst coach ever" and "this is the most disappointing team ever" threads are kind of well, stupid. we have problems that need to be fixed. if rick barnes hasn't proven to you know that he's at the very least a good coach, then you A) totally missed the boat on this guy, or B) will never be pleased. i have nothing against constructive criticism but hyperbole at this point in this season is ridiculous.

Well, this stretch has been dissappointing - no two ways about it:

Aggies - Lead most of the game and take us to OT on our home court before Damion saves us in OT.

KSU - You had to know this was a likely loss, but we wilted at the end.

UConn - A good, but not great team. After the KSU loss, we should have come out taken care of business. This one wasn't even competitive down the stretch.

Tech - Down at halftime. We rely on the scoring aboration of Balbay and Mason. Not too much to hang your hat on.

Baylor - Perhaps the most dissappointing of them all. Pretty much a team-wide suckage. I'll give it up to Damion for his inspired play, but he still missed some clutch free-throws.

Perhaps, the worst news is a killer stretch. 4 of the next six our road conference games, with KU as a home game. Almost certainly 2-3 more losses. If we aren't careful, could be 4-5.

I'm sticking with my 'Horns but right now they are just a group of individuals out there playing ball. There's no team work going on. I love Rick Barnes and hope he stays for another 15 years but right now this may be his worst coaching job to date with this talented group.

I am ready for Jan to be over with...with the exception of Hicks and Jeffcoat, this month has sucked for Hornfans

If Texas can win 3 of the next 5, I will be very impressed.

No worries, the Big 12 has some seriously good teams. Hats of to Baylor, they are going to surprise some folks...they have a very good team...top 20..maybe top 15

As others have said, the term bandwagon is only for those who are not committed fans, but only support a team when it is winning. Of course those kinds of fans are going to leave now. That's fine. Many of us here are Texas basketball fan, period. Win, lose, good, bad. I, for one, prefer basketball as a sport to football, and I just plain love my Horns. Simple.

Now: this team is frustrating as hell! It's the free throws, the missed layups, the selfishness, the stupid mistakes, and the lack of effort. A great example is Pittman, who seems - I hate to say it - lazy on the court. For a guy who has worked so hard off the court, this is maddening. I don't want to believe it about a kid I like so much. But he whines about calls, refuses to fight for position or the ball, and gives up on too many plays. Argh!

Lots more to vent about in terms of offensive execution.

Well said, VG.

What's so frustrating about this team is not that they're losing, but that they are, in essence, CHOOSING to lose. Most of us understand that a team will sometimes have a game or two where the shots aren't falling and the bounces just aren't going their way. The things you mentioned (FT shooting, selfishness, lack of effort and discipline) are all within the control of the team and coaches, yet they refuse to do anything to correct it. It's a disgrace.

I would be happy if we could just make free throws. There really isn't an excuse for how bad we have been at them over the years.
