Time for UTEP

This week the Horns play UTEP, game on ESPN2. Texas is 1 -0 and UTEP 0 -1. Last week thy lost to Buffalo 42 - 17. (Not the Patriots the Bulls.)

Buffalo rushed for 263 yds and passed for another 281. UTEP has spme talent on offense. Soph. QB Trevor Vittatoe was an overlooked gem in recruiting. However, they lost theit top two rushers and four of their top five recievers from last year. The cupboard isn't empty, but it is pretty sparse.

On defense the good news is they have a lot of people back. The bad news is they have a lot of people back. They were less than impressive against Buffalo. Not suprising, last year they gave up 56 to Rice.

Texas needs to play physical smart football. Particularly keeping up the excellent ball security displayed against FAU.
UTEP needs a Texas brain fart of epic proportions.

I give this one to THE University of Texas at Austin baby!!!

Even if we brain fart some I think that any lack of depth will hurt them as it does many teams like them. They will just get worn down and beaten down. The difference between their first, second and even third rotations is vast compared to that of a major school or program.

I like UTEP and I hope they rebound after this game, provided we win, and make a solid bowl and win it. I also hope neither team has any injuries.

Goals for the game should be:
1) Work in some new stuff in the secondary
2) rotate the hell out of every position to get experience
3) get Chiles on the field more
4) no injuries or turnovers

5) Realize at this point our best backup qb is likely Harris and work him in more just in case Colt gets dinged up. Gradually work in Chiles but keep to the creative ways to bring him on the field otherwise. I have no problem with Chiles' shoes hitting the field more, much more, than Sherrod's...just not as qb.

I think UTEP will throw the ball a lot. It will provide a lot of opportunity for the folks in the secondary to see some more live game action at this level. I am excited to see how the young DB's respond.

The reason this game doesn't even feel like a trap to me is our offense (very good) against their defense (not very good). Anything can happen, but I feel like with our veteran leadership at QB we may go through them like a hot knife through butter.

6. Don't play Charlie Tanner, let him rest that ankle
7. Start Michael Huey in Tanner's place to get valuable experience
8. Tell the players to commute in taxi's if they go over to Juarez to party.

Re: the game. To quote The Peoples Elbow (TPE): "this is going to be one smooth one" ... The Horns will not overlook the Miners, it may be 50-0 at the half.

I don't honestly know why there is so much concern over this game. We could have Dinesh Patel personally cater the entire first team at their El Paso hotel before the game, and we would probably still win with the players we have left.

That said, we mustn't overlook UTEP. We need to maintain maximum focusness ($1 to Bill in Sinton). If the Longhorns show up and play to the level that they are capable of playing, then good things will happen.

FAU is a much better team than UTEP.

That is all you need to know.

This will be a shellacking of epic proportions.

"I might be wrong, but I think Mack is 0-1 in the Sun Bowl. I've got a bad feeling about this one "

I don't think UTEP has James Brown this Saturday......

Sorry about getting the Bills and Patriots mixed up. Of course the last pro game I watched was about 20 yrs ago.
