Speaking of "baseball writers" who suck: What does anyone on here think of Trubow at the Statesman? I don't know him personally, but he writes like a real asshat. If I'm a player or a coach at Texas, I'm giving that guy one-word answers to every question.
More than a little confused about the junior college comment from Griffin. Honestly, why even write something if you're not sure about it, or you have nothing whatsoever to back it up?
How many junior college players were on the field for Rice last night? Only J.P. Padron - and that includes pitchers.
The powerhouses in college baseball are not living and dying with junior college players. In fact, Texas Tech has done a helluva lot more dying than living on those guys in recent years.
The great programs are bred from top high school talent - maybe a juco guy here or there to fill a hole.
Well, the whole premise of the article is that there was a changing of the guard of some sort last night, but in my opinion, that's a slap at Rice. The Owls have been in the thick of things since the late '90's, and they were kicking the **** out of Texas during those years. The Horns started catching up during that stretch from '01-'05, but even then they didn't dominate. It's been a pretty back-and-forth rivaly over the course of this decade.
This article doesn't make me mad from a standpoint of a writer taking a swing at Texas - particulalry when it's justified. It makes me mad from the standpoint that he lives in San Antonio, writes for the Express-News and for ESPN, and he obviously doesn't have a damn clue what he's talking about.
Don is right. It's about who's the Texas powerhouse right NOW and that's Rice. Do I think Texas can reclaim their spot at the top? Absolutely. As soon as next year? I have my doubts but it's possible.
I think Augie should take down all the mentions of "Texas Baseball" around the Disch for next season and have the team only worry about becoming the best baseball team they can be without all the expectations. Let them practice in plain grey uniforms because it's obvious the pressure of playing for this storied university is getting to them. Usually that pressure is healthy, but not for this bunch. Unfortunately, at this point all of the CWS experience has just about been fazed out and replaced by mediocrity over the last 3 post seasons, so I have no idea where this team's going to get it's leadership from(not that it had much before). Seemingly Augie's tried everything to get these guys to perform, but maybe he has another rabbit in his hat somewhere.
Instead of being defensive, let's be realistic. Where have we been over the last 3 years when Rice has been representing the state in Omaha? We've spent our time being bitter, and sitting on our asses at home wishing we were there instead. I have more faith in Augie than I have in any other coach on our campus, and I have no doubt he will get this turned around, but it's up to the proud players of this state to stand up, accept the challenge, and just do what they're capable of. Nothing more.
