Tim Duncan to sign for 3 more years

He'll turn 39 near the end of the 2015 season so this ought to take him right up to retirement.

No big surprise that he's going to finish his career with San Antonio - I'm glad of this for several reasons. Obviously one is because I'm a Spurs fan; in hindsight it's pretty funny remembering back when a lot of people on this board were telling Spurs fans to prepare to become irrelevant because Duncan was going to sign with Orlando or Miami once Robinson retired. But also because I like seeing guys who've played for a decade or more with the same team finish their last few "old man" seasons in the same place they started off. It was no fun seeing stuff like Emmitt Smith in Arizona or Hakeem Olajuwon in Toronto.

I believe he's only getting paid about half of what was he getting paid per-year in his last deal, so it's possible this frees up some cap room for San Antonio for the upcoming season, but I really don't understand how all of that works.

A lot of good memories over the years and hopefully more to come. It's great to see a player start and end his career in the same place.
