Tiger's average tourney finish

Does anyone know Tiger's average finish in a tournament? It seems like he either wins or is in the top 5 or 10. I don't know if they keep stats on this, but he's got to have the highest average finishing position by a long shot (no pun intended).

last 21 events: avg finish 4.28
18/21 top 10 (4,6,1,9,1, 2, 5, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 2, 1, 1, 6, 2)
3/21 top 20 (17, 15, 12)

some perspective using #2 in world Phil:
last 21 events: avg finish 17 (not including two missed cuts, so this is for 19 events)
10/21 top ten (5, 5, 1, 9, 1, 9, 8, 3, 7, 4)
5/21 top 20 (17, 19, 19, 18, 20)
6 other (55, 42, 73, 38, MC, MC)

Tiger did it again today. Tied for seventh after three rounds of play, he fired a 7-under 65 to win the Memorial.

As many players and as much parity as today's Tour has, what Tiger is able to accomplish is amazing. If he's playing his best, nobody can beat him, so it's either a scrum for second or hoping that his game takes a turn for the worst.

He's ridiculous.

And anyone who says that this isn't the golden age of golf because there's aren't any other "great players" is absolutely dillusional. The fact is that Tiger is head and shoulders above the greatest generation of golfers ever. There has never been the money to bring out this much talent in the past and for that reason the field is the best. And then Tiger often times just goes out and destroys them. (Maybe only one or two days, but it's become a joke.)

Jack Nicklaus is a humble man. He is a genuine man and a man of high quality. This is echoed by all that seem to know him or have been around him. He is admired by the greats of his time and of the modern era. They are not being cliche or politically correct when they adorn him with respect, they mean it.

Jack goes on and on and on about Tiger Woods. It is almost like he is talking about his own son sometimes. He does not say that he thinks Tiger is the greatest EVER and that he is very glad there was not a Tiger in his era, he means it.

Tiger Woods is not the greates golfer ever because of natural talent and ability. It helps. He is not the greatest golfer ever because he is in a physical shape from hard work with training, diet and weights. It helps. He is not the greatest golfer because he practices more than other golfers, gets on the course before others do and is the last to leave at night. Again, it helps.

Tiger is the embodiment of everything the past legends did. But he has all the aspects, not some. Jack was talking to the announcers during the play this weekend and they compared Tigers rehab to that of Jacks knee problems one year. Jack quickly put an end to that. He reminded them there was no comparison between Jack's minor injury and quick rehab to the fractures and major surgery Tiger underwent. Also the pain and discomfort that Tiger played through and even won with. That Tiger was still in pain, still favoring in his swing and finding a way to adjust during this long rehab and that he was barely coming back to form.

I really love Jack, Arnie, Lee and Co. But had Tiger been around then with what he brings to the game, we may not be talking about a couple of those guys now.

Tiger Woods, it's gotta be the shoes.

Countless pros discount the equipment issue with the quality and difficulty of the courses now. The numbers Jack put up then would not be put up now with the courses now. Shoot, some courses have been manipulated to purposely go against Tiger and his game and those failed. Jack did not have groundskeepers designing Jack proof courses.

Equipment today means nothing in that argument. Sorry, the courses now crush the ones then in difficulty. Jack even says so. Hell, Jack even designs them. It's a wash.

Tiger is in better physical shape than maybe any golfer of Jack's generation BY FAR. He is a specimen even by today's standards. Tiger has raised the bar. You will need to be in good shape, practice hard AND respond to pressure. Tiger may not even bring his A game and it may be enough for him to win.

Basically a golfer has to find Tiger in a down moment and play the game of their life to have a chance. That must suck.

Can we put the Jack vs. Tiger argument aside? Too hard to compare players of different generations. Jack still has Tiger in # of wins and majors. Until Tiger gets there Jack is still the man.

Tiger had an amazing round today. I watched most of it on TV. He was absolutely stripping the ball with his drives. He hit every single fairway which I cannot remember him ever doing. He was perfect. His irons were dialed in and that shot on 18 was spectacular. He actually needed that birdie otherwise he would have been in a playoff. Then his short game was as it always is.....spectacular. That shot on what 11 where he chipped it in for an eagle. I knew then that he was going to win. His putting was pretty dialed in. He had his speed down and seemed to have the green read dead on. Many players were missing short putts due to the green speeds and not wanting to hit it too hard.

Tiger had all 4 phases dialed in on Sunday and that is why he was able to shoot a 7 under and win.

Tiger said after the round that he has only recently in the last 2 weeks been able to practice like he usually does. That helped him fix his swing errors that were hurting his driving accuracy the last few tournaments he played in. In those he still had enough game to finish in the top 10 but not enough to get it done. I would look for him now to continue his dominance and win1 if not 2 of the final 3 majors this year.

Tiger's overall stats are as follows:
228 PGA events entered
67 career wins (29.39% win%)
23 2nd place finishes (39.5% 1st or 2nd)
17 3rd place finishes (46.9% top 3)
155 top 10 finishes (67.98% top 10)

His performance in majors is very similar with slightly slower %'s. Of course you have to remember that he only won 1 major in his 1st 17 attempts. He has won 13 majors in his last 36 attempts (36.1% win%). He has also had 6 top 3 finishes during that stretch.....finishing top 3 52.8% of the time in the last 36 majors.....wow!!!!!
