Throwing mistakes

First of all, congrats to LSU, especially their coach who must have had a gut feeling to stay aggressive on the bases. These two throwing mistakes killed us IMO.

Obviously the bad throw by Rupp, but that doesn't happen if LSU isn't stealing.

But then, back to the 9th inning. Our left fielder, defensive substitute correct?, misses cutoff man. ESPN wouldn't show a wide angle, so we couldn't see, but the LSU coach pointed that out in an interview.

All I wanted, and expected, was a play at the plate. So why does our defensive substitute in left miss the cut off man? Remember there were LSU men at first and third when he hits the double.

Hit the cutoff man, great throw to the plate and the game might have ended, 6-5.

Bottom line, LSU coach outcoached Augie on the bases, for sure.

and in a somewhat unrelated note, if we're substituting defensively for right field, why did our right fielder look like he had to run around in circles to catch the last fly ball?

Keep our sticks, PC, KK and Moldy in LF, RF and the DH, respectively, and we have a better chance both ways IMO.

Win tomorrow and it's for all the marbles Wed.

On the 9th inning throw from left field, from what i could tell from the replay, a perfect cut off and throw would not have gotten to the plate in time.

Not sure the replay is in synch but right when ESPN cut away as the throw was coming into the cut off man, the runner was already half way between third and home.

I dunno, my take.

These may good points but I can't over LSU hitting the leadoff hitter to start our 9th. Successful sacrifice and our 1 and 2 hitters hit high fly balls stranding the winning run a second. We were given a chance and didn't take advantage.

Their 2-out, 2-run double in the 9th was not a line shot by any means. I would have liked to see Maitland go all out for it. Looks like he hesitated and played it very safe. Oh well.....I think the Horns take it to them tonite.

He was a rightie, not a lefty. And, in that situation, you go all-out. I will give credit when warranted, but I will ctiticize when warranted as well. Thanks.

3 very costly mistakes last night:
1) Maitland's positioning (left-center field) on the double. I think he makes the play if he is playing a normal LF position.
2) Wood throwing Mitchell a fastball instead of off-speed stuff
3) Workman throwing Mahtook anything other than fastballs

I'm assuming all of these fall on our coaching staff.
