Thriller... 25 years later

where did it all go?

It amazes me this album is the best selling album of all time. It was great entertainment no doubt, but geez seems so shallow 25 years later. I don't think it has necessarily held the test of time. Pop music changes so much and really very rarely has an impact on society. When I think of albums that have had the kind of impact it is a pretty short list. The one that comes to mind over the last 25 years is Joshua Tree which just turned 20 years old.

I was only 5 when it was released but it was still pretty big when I began to care. It is one of the best albums, IMHO, ever.

still great. I saw him on the Thriller tour in about 1984. Great show.

Saying Thriller > Joshua Tree is kinda like Saying GM>Ferrari because Gm sells more cars. It just ain't the case, and that is not an opinion. Well, maybe it is but there is no way on this Earth that Thriller is a better piece of music than Joshua Tree.

I'm not saying this source is 100% accurate, since it is subjective, but Rolling Stone thinks Thriller is better than Joshua Tree according to their list of the 500 greatest albums of all time (released in 2003). So there is at least one musically credible source that thinks Thriller > Joshua Tree.

I think Thriller tends to get overhyped because it sold eleventy billion records and pretty much every song on the album was released as a single.

That said, it is still miles better than a lot of the spewage that passes for pop music these days. Too bad Jacko went Whacko...

Anybody remember him doing the backing vocals on Rockwell's "Somebody's Watching Me" around that same time? Probably a big reason that single was a huge success as well.

Now you young whippersnappers get off my lawn!!!
