Flame bait. And believe it or not, I ain't bitin'.
Actually, so long as they didn't call it barbecue brisket, I'm fine with it. Don't get me wrong -- it doesn't sound very tasty to me at all. But braising a brisket is a not-uncommon cooking technique.
Brisket is just a cheap cut of fatty meat. If you want to cook it like a semi-pot roast, more power to you. I wouldn't be looking forward to that meal, but honestly, that recipe just doesn't sound tasty no matter what cut of beef you use.
You thought I was going to be more outraged, didn't you?
Man, y'all are too harsh. Ever had corned beef made with brisket? For crying out loud, that's a brisket (often trimmed of some fat) that's BRINED/PICKLED, then BOILED. And it's good stuff.
T'ain't barbecue, but then again, there ARE other things to do with meat other than smoking it. So long as you don't slather a brisket in kc masterpiece and bake it for 3 hours and call it barbecue, I'm fine if you do what you want to do.
If the "defat brisket" part came before a recipe for smoking it -- well then, I'da had to go medieval on somebody. But it didn't. So, no harm, no foul. If you want to braise a brisket, have at it.
And if you want to make a corned beef brisket, invite me over for some.
