Thoughts on the Tech Game

Since I was at the game, I feel the duty to post my pissed off thoughts about how useless our bigs were. DJ has to start looking for the easy pass down to the block. He had multiple opportunities to pass to Atchley and Johnson but apparently didn't see it (the most aggriegous offense was when Johnson was actually hopping up and down, waving his arms at DJ while being wide open). I don't understand why Barnes didn't try to put Pittman in at the beginning of the second half with Johnson and let the two of them bang it out with Tech.

Even the local sports media here (which is biased as hell) will admit Tech has problems defending the post. I also can't understand why Barnes insisted on running high screen after high screen for DJ when it was obvious that Tech's perimeter defense was too quick for nearly all the screens Atchley and Wangmene set. TRY SOMETHING ELSE! That's not to say that Texas didn't show heart at the end of the game but they should never have gotten down by 14 in the first place.

I hope Dustin gets his *** chewed again long and hard for the dumb technical foul. As far as the crowd was concerned, that was the changing point. The four point play completely rejuvenated Tech and we were never the same after that. Actually, up till then it seemed like Texas was toying with Tech and I felt like we were on the verge of blowing Tech out. Momentum... what a killer.

First of all, how the hell did you get to a computer so fast, secondly damn did our bigs suck it up tonight. Cheap fouls on James and nothing from Atchley. What scared him so much, he had several wide open looks at the 3 point line and totally copped out.

Sloppy and lazy.

Who is Dustin?

I was more pissed that Johnson fouled with 40 seconds left. Terrible mental mistake, but I guess its better to make a mistake in a situation like that during a regular season game than during the actual tourney.

Frustrating loss but showed a lot of heart at the end of the game.

AJ Abrams , 5 of 17 from the field. This is the real reason, if we are going to pick on a player. Johnson's lack of attention to Barnes's intstruction was a mistake but the foundation for the loss was set by AJ's off game.

As AJ goes, so go the Horns. If he is hot, UT is damn near unbeatable.

Lack of defense... Did you see all of those petty falls Augustin was committing. This scares me because in the tourney, Texas will run in to some tough guards. Also, Abrams looked very vulnerable today on the road. I hope the sharpen up...

Free throw attempts
Tech - 43
UT - 13

And we lose by three.

How the hell did they miss the call when Augustine dribbled inside and when he took a two handed shot, the Tech defender nearly pulled his left arm out of socket. No call.

Justin, Dustin, my bad. Also, I attend law school here which is literally across the street from the arena. I was pissed off and walked kinda fast.

I was there last night and the crowd was clearly a factor in this one. And you really have to give credit to Alan Vosckul (sp?) at the end of the game going 8 for 8 from the line in the closing minute. If we would have been able to foul anybody else this game would have gone in our favor IMO, but the man was clutch.

This loss is probably a good thing. I think the team might have been getting a little full of themselves so this will probably bring them down to earth, the lack of shots for our bigs and ft disparity will give Barnes something to get after the team about, mainly being more aggressive and attack the basket first, get the big guys involved, and player much better defense.

This was the only game on the schedule that was considered a tough one because its Tech and they play much, much better at home. I think their only loss was to OU on a last second half-court 3 pointer so I think we all knew we were gonna be in for a dog fight.

It looked like they told AJ to start going to the hoop in the second half of the second half. He started shooting those floaters during the second half. It'd be nice to see him go back to that a little, he used it much more the first half of the season. Just keeps the D off him a little bit.
