Thoughts on AM and Wishes

1) Wish we had a homecourt like Aggy
2) Rick Barne's offensive X and O's best on display with time out prior to end of first half. Ward pounds ball for 13 seconds, AJ runs a circle around court, and then flings up a forced three as time expires. Killer work on the chalkboard there! Bobby Knight would have not called the time out, Rick! The game was over after that.
3) Texas needs to beat OU (or Kansas) or the NCAA streak is over. The team is "bubble out" right now. A lot of people saw that egg we laid. I realize that Texas can beat Oklahoma State, Baylor, and Tech, and still get to 9 wins. But with two devastating losses on national TV, I don't think confidence will be there for the team to find a three game winning streak.
4) We can sure as hell can beat OU! We will play 2-3 zone, and if our crowd is there and loud, maybe their young backcourt loses their stroke from distance. And James can intercept a few attempted lobs over-the-top to the big fellow down low.
5) Texas, apart from Gary Johnson, looked tired last night. AJ had his hands on his hips during most dead balls, in the first half! I wish James would have made one of two to prevent OT in Boulder, but it would not have made much difference. I wish our game was with OU was next Monday after they played Saturday.
6) The schedule did no favor to Texas this season.
7) Balbay's foul troubles hurt us last night.
8) Am I the only one who prefers AJ be used as decoy and let the offense go through Gary Johnson on the opposite block? Can Johnson pass out of a double team? That kid will draw them soon enough. Gary Johnson is a player!
9) Did the announcer really say that Mark Turgeon would be glad to let Mason throw up wide open three balls? Mason can hit them occasionally, can't he? I think he will on Saturday night!
10) Texas Fight, please!!!!!!!

1) Are you talking about their fans? Their actual basketball court is atrocious. Worst in basketball.
2) Agreed on Rick Barnes' X's and O's offense, but that is not the reason we lost the game.
3) Agree on this point and we are not beating KU in Lawrence, so it comes down to Saturday. We will not beat all three of Baylor, Tech and OSU. We will lose one of those games. This team has shown they do not have the talent to win games they are supposed to win.
4) This team can beat OU, but it comes down to the crowd and the team feeding off the crowd.
5) Coming off a road OT win in Boulder from Saturday and playing on the road in Aggieland is a very tough turn around. Cannot fault the team for being tired and flat.
6) Agreed on the schedule suckage.
7) When you have one true PG and he has just started to come through with that role, your team is going to depend on them and when that PG gets into foul trouble, you are going to have issues.
8) Johnson disappears too often and is not consistent enough to let the offense run through him.
9) Mason cannot hit the broad side of the barn. I would leave Mason wide open anywhere outside the lane. He cannot shoot. I would also foul Balbay and Mason late in the game if the game is close.
10) Agreed.

Definitely was taliking about the atmosphere of the "homecourt", not the court itself. I am envious of their fan support with the white out and loud cheering. Their arena has more verticality to it around the court. The Drum is very laterally spread. It is harder for our fans to get intimidating to the opposition. I wish we could come up with a way to make it more like a canyon like at Assembly Hall Bloomington or similar.

In schedule gripe, I am being awfully myopic. But consider just the differences between OU and Texas down the stretch. In my view, national TV games will be a big factor in the NCAA tournament selections. That in mind, Texas plays on the road at Colorado, then plays in Big Monday at A&M. We were gassed and on the road back-to-back. Now we face an absolute must win with OU on Saturday. OU will come in after and full week off. OU then turns around and plays at HOME on the quick Big Monday turnaround. That small stretch of critical schedule did Texas no favor, I'd think that's obvious, right? It is surely easier to play tired with the support of a home crowd, even Texas'!

Is this Rick Barnes' worst season at Texas from the standpoint of expectations vs. reality? I would sure hope so.

I'm pretty sure after the Aggy victory that Bryan Davis is happier than he's been in 30 years. Seriously, how old is that dude? He looks older than Oden.
