Thoughts on ADM McRaven for Chancellor

Adm. McRaven was good enough to head up the operation to capture Bin Laden, but is he good enough to weed out the terrorists trying to lower the academic status of The University of Texas? I hope so.

If you haven't seen it, go to Youtube and google his commencement address in May. I think he will be outstanding!

Most likely Powers. Generally, the person that is too big for his britches gets the surprise. I wouldn't mind listening in the first time McRaven makes a request and Powers obstructs or refuses.

Major,

Considering the events 25 years ago in Austin, I'd say they have moved on, but it was damn close then. Of course, our wonderful administration back then was clueless.

As a side note I heard on the radio tonight there are 65,000 employees in the UT system which he will lead. Does anyone know how many students there are in the UT system?

I'm sure athletic, research and hospital employees inflate that number but 65K seems very high to me.

Could this be his first course of action to make education more affordable?

That 65k includes all 15 institutions administrative staff. That's a lot, but that's 15 institutions including the 6 health institutions/hospitals.

You need cafeteria workers, police, nurses, accountants, etc.

Yes, the UT system. Still 65,000 employees seems bloated which is why I asked about the number of actual students in the system.

According to the 2013 UT system fast facts there were 216,606 students and 89,040 employees including research, hospitals, etc. Of that Almost 20,000 are faculty.

This is one of the few WM threads that is not in danger of deterioration into lib vs conservative memes. It simply a question of Badass or not Badass.

I vote: "Badass". Excellent hire. I just hope he has a good security team protecting him...
