Thomas Ashcraft: Engineering a Championship

As an engineering grad, I really hope this guy succeeds both on the field and in the classroom. I honestly cant remember the last contributor on the field that we had that was also an engineering major, and in my time at UT in the 90's the only football player I ever had a class with was a walk-on RB in the intro chem class. Just wondering if there have been other recent players that were engineering students that I wasnt aware of...anyone know?

Also the photo that accompanies that article makes the guy look pretty lean/cut for an o-lineman. At 270 now, this guy could be a beast.

During undergrad I remember seeing Marcus Myers (LB/FB) in the mechanical engineering building. But I think he might have been a ChemE major.

Good call ryskey...I looked him up and according to mackbrown.com he was EE. I know I didn't have the grades to qualify for the honor roll as a EE most semesters, and I sure as hell didn't have to put in the time on the football field that Marcus did. Impressive.

Born 5/30/84 in Austin, Texas ... full name is Marcus Gerald Myers ... an electrical engineering major ... father, Rufus, played running back at Texas Tech (1973-75) ... a five-time member of UT's Athletics Director's Academic Honor Roll.

I thought Mack had brought in enough talent at OL to be set for the next 3 years but now he bring sin Ashcraft, Walters, Porter, and Kelley and, well just damned!!

OL will be averaging 6-5, 310-320 for the next 5 years!

Yes, Raul Allegre was in engineering. I remember my old professor in the late 80s, the late Dr. Robert Herman (inventor of the big bang theory in the 40s, father of freeway traffic flow theory, nobel prize nominee and joint professor of physics and civil engineering) telling me about Raul Allegre, who got an A in his course on statistics which was not considered an easy course!

Dennis McWilliams (yes that McWilliams) earned an engineering degree at UT and has forged a very successful career. A recent edition of The Alcalde has a story on the company that he formed.

i feel all the early commits have a good head on their shoulders and are high character / intelligent and able to compete at high levels in the classroom as well as the football field. these guys are special indeed and what a delight to have a leader like Mack.
