Damn she is kicking ***, her Bio states she lives in Austin and trains at UT. WR on just about all her swims.

(Cartmen)Supposedly there are a lot of white people in Zimbabwe

She is UT's volunteer assistant coach. Also, UT women's head coach Kim Brackin is the coach for the Zimbabwe team. Coventry swam for Auburn, I think when Brackin was coaching there prior to coming to UT.

She did not have to endure a lot of competition in her country's Olympic trials like our swimmers. The announcers think she is a big surprise, but Coventry was able to pace herself for the big races, not trials, then the Olympics. Might be a big advantage. She is an Austinite, and got quite a bit of press here prior to the Olympics.

i was pulling for her in the 200 IM last night not only because she's a longhorn but also because she's representing zimbabwe. has an african country ever won a gold medal in swimming?

she isn't a longhorn, she swam for Auburn in college. her college coach now coaches at ut, so she's been training in austin, but she isn't a longhorn and isn't really an "austinite".

if she's a volunteer coach at UT, i'd consider her a longhorn. either way, i just want to see an african nation win a swimming gold.

i just saw on nbcolympics.com that she won a gold in the 200 backstroke four years ago in Athens. guess that answers the question.

I'd like to know about her history as she has absolutely no accent and speaks just like an American. Did she actually live in Africa early on or did she swim for them when she couldnt make the USA team and now is this awesome swimmer we'd love to have? Just kind of curious.

did y'all see the piece about her in last night's primetime coverage? that is definitely NOT an american accent she has.

I did see it. Yes, she does have an accent....sometimes. But a lot of the times she sounds like just an American girl in my opinion. Obviously that story gives me the background I was curious about.
