'This town has adopted TCU'

How many times did we hear this from the announcers at the CWS?

Hey, I'll be the first to admit I like feel-good stories, especially in baseball. But please don't lie to me.

Guess you missed TCU's first couple of games. Attendance was great. TCU gear sold out before everyone else's. Ticket prices to the TCU games were higher than all the others.

Nope, guess again, saw them both, very exciting games. But with the "adopted" team's season on the line the attendance was near a 20-year low.

not sure I get your point. Rooting for a particular team does not mean you have to be at the game. They were still working at the hotels, restaurants and memorobilia stands.

As a first-timer, TCU certainly could be expected to be a darling, but they were especially so because they'd beaten us. If they'd come through another route, they would not have been nearly as popular with the natives.

Agree with Texanne. F the corncobs. Glad attendance sucked.

They were worried about sellouts in Rosenblatt's last year, but without us and the bayou bengals that was not a problem.

their gear sold out first...so?

Unless the vendors ordered the same amount of hats/shirts for every team there, that means nothing.

If they only ordered 2000 TCU hats and 6000 UCLA and ASU hats, that may explain the difference.

whatever you guys say. Everyone reporting from there and everyone I know that went said the same thing.

And now the town has sent the beloved Longhorn beaters back to the orphanage where they will never visit again.
Sure, in Nebraska they are going to like any team that beats Texas.

I'll be surprised if they don't make a return trip next year. I'll also be surprised if Texas does. I hope you guys are ready for a SR in FW.

TCU went to the CWS, they did a good job. They represented Texas. I was glad that they went and did a good job. So what is the big deal about them now? They went, they are home.

Valmy77,

how is that classless trash talking? I am jsut calling em like I see 'em. Most Texas fans speak in even more certain terms than that, but I'm sure you don't see that as classless trashtalking.

zork,

TCU was ranked high enough in most polls to be a national seed. Being close to Austin doesn't help, but beating Texas in Austin will help next year. And the stadium will be expanded; don't worry about that. Worry about getting hotel reservations in FW.

This isn't smack-talking at all. TCU and Texas were pretty close all year and Texas loses more than TCU going into next year. That's all. TCU losing coach Whit will hurt recruiting pretty bad, but that effect won't show up next year.
