NEW YORK (Reuters) - Sirius XM Radio Inc has been working with its advisers to prepare for a possible bankruptcy filing, the New York Times reported on its website on Tuesday, citing people close to the company.

The move could put pressure on satellite television company EchoStar Corp, which reportedly holds a substantial amount of Sirius XM debt. The Wall Street Journal reported Monday that EchoStar chief Charles Ergen made an offer to take control of the satellite radio company late last year, but he was rebuffed.

Sirius officials did not respond to several telephone and email messages, and EchoStar declined comment.

Sirius has been working with restructuring expert Joseph A. Bondi of Alvarez & Marsal and bankruptcy lawyer Mark Thompson of Simpson, Thacher & Bartlett to help prepare a Chapter 11 filing, the New York Times reported, adding that a filing could come within days.

A Simpson, Thacher spokeswoman declined comment, and Bondi was not immediately available for comment.

Sirius has also been working with investment bank Evercore Partners, the newspaper said. Evercore could to be reached immediately.

This is inevitable since it kicks so much ***, has such great programming and music as well as selection. Yet the fraud of HD Radio seems to be doing well. Give the public cake and they will choose to eat dung.

I've had satellite radio (was Sirius, now the combined company) for the last 4 years, and since that time, I've listened to broadcast radio I think two or three times, when i was on the road and the Horns were playing.

Other than that, all satellite. If you have it, you realize its value.

Just because they're filing for bankruptcy doesn't mean the end of it, does it?
I simply can't deal with FM radio. It's ******* atrocious, especially in Austin, ironically enough.

I agree about regular radio. I have not listened to regular radio in about 5 years. When I lived in austin...1990-1995 and 2000-2002, Austin had the best FM radio anywhere...i didnt know it had gone downhill.

I don't think this will be the end. There was never a market for 2. The merger didn't go as smoothly as possible and the economy tanked about the same time. They can emerge from bankruptcy as a single provider and be a stronger better company. Unless of course the government gets involved.

I don't ever listen to it in the car, don't even have it hooked up. But I do have a portable boom box that has phenomenal sound, there are hook ups to a home system and you can listen online as well.

I take it with me to work, backyard doing yardwork, to friends when working on their house, picnics/bbqs and a host of other things. I took it to the deserts of New Mexico with me to listen to kick *** programming in the middle of nowhere.

it is not just something to listen to in a car if even at all.

I agree that once somebody has one they will wonder what they did without one. That is if they truly like music, choices and quality content without the blah blah of terrestrial radio not to mention ****** music repeated over and over again.

I compare it with my DVR as a must have item.

Besides, you do not, you absolutely do not get what SatRad has for free on a normal radio. That would be like comparing rancid salmonella tainted food to fresh gourmet delicacies. Hey, they are both food.

Believe this. The only thing the two have in common is that they play music and have talk radio. But you get nothing in the cosmos close to SatRad with terrestrial.

I never thought I would buy into sat/rad until the wife got a free sub with the new car. We went on a road trip and I ran across X country and Willies Place. I was sold on the spot. I hooked up with a Pioneer Inno as soon as I got back in town. From what I have read, they will be fine after chapter 11. With 20 million subs, I doubt they go under.
