This season - A blessing in disguise?

It's just human nature and a shame that it takes an utter collapse like we've seen so far this season to cause Deloss, Mack, et al to rid themselves of their preconceived notions of past successess being attributable solely to their schemes and system. Anyone who is truly honest about it knows Greg Davis is never the OC of a national champion without VY. It's time to step back and re-evaluate top to bottom. For instance, it would be valuable to look into the wisdom of signing so many high school juniors to letters of intent, is our conditioning & strength program really exceptional, coaching staff & team chemistry, etc. Of course, the coaching staff will get a full examination and the embarassment of this season will force significant personnel changes. All in all you might say this season could be similar to the gift of Obama winning the presidency in 2008 was to congressional republicans in 2010.

Good analogy - Obama's contribution to the rejuvination of the Republican party. I agree with you that this season - as bad as it has been (and may still become) - can serve as a wake-up call that we need to shake things up a bit. Mack keeps talking about this season being a "perfect storm" of what can go wrong. My concern is that it goes deeper than just bad luck and Mack needs to recognize the true problems so he knows what he needs to fix.

Hopefully we'll all look back at this season in a year or 2 and shake our heads with disbelief.

Not sure GD will be one of the significant staff changes. The good folks at IT believes that there will be staff changes at the end of the season but it will not be GD. They believe it will be OL, TE, WR coaches and Tolley too.

For an individual, a failure of this scope can be a turning point/blessing in disguise.

For a department (or school) at the University of Texas at Austin, a failure of this scope gets the Dean reassigned by the Board of Regents.

I’ve seen’em do it too.

If Greg Davis is gone next year, this year was worth it. If Davis is on the staff next year it was just the bleginning of the end.

Mack can choose to tie his fate to Davis' -- if he does, so be it. Thanks for recruiting Vince and Colt.

I've said since the NU game that the worse thing that could happen is for Texas to run the table. To make another political analagy, the sub-prime mortgage problem was never going to be addressed until the house of cards collapsed. Same with the complacency of the Texas football program.
