Wow- that commercial sent chills up my arms. One of the comments on youtube caught my eye-the one about how this commercial differed from the other armed service's commercial in that it doesn't talk about the financial incentives of joining but rather the qualities of what it means to be a Marine.
I had a friend who was dating a Marine from Lejeune once. We drove up there several times to pick him up on our way to the beach and watching the morning PT was just an experience.
"You see, the real Marine guard wasn't good enough, so what the commercial makers did was contact the Aggie Honor Corps, and had them actually twirl their rifles, because they are so much better."
WHHOOOOP!!!
(Sorry. Maybe many of you don't remember A Few A Good Men...)
From an advertising and marketing perspective, the Marines have always had the best commercials. (Beer companies are probably second, followed by truck companies.)
They're totally different from the other branches. The others promise college money, a job, and adventure, or whatever. The Marines say "If you're man enough, join the Marines." Al Gray once said "All I need is a few warriors to follow me.
I liked the last set of commercials they had. At the end, two Marines were carrying an American flag through what looked to be the City of Hue. That was a great image.
I'm guessing this is the commercial that the city of SF didn't want them filming in town for. So instead they went down the shore of the Golden Gate Bridge and did it from there.
Love the commercials for the Marines. They are indeed a breed apart from the other services. Truly a band of brothers thing. When you meet a Marine, they are so proud of being one.
I don't know..there was a print in newsweek when I was in college that might've made me join the army had I still been in high school.
Just a guy decked in super-advanced looking black body armor and a computerized looking helmet with a black tinted visor...holding some futuristic gun with all kinds of fun gadgets and ****.
That's all it was....just that and an army logo and maybe a website or phone number. Man that was cool.
The Navy had a great commercial a few years ago ... Nighttime, beach, full moon. Cloud moves in front ot the moon for about 1 seconds ... there are footprints on the beach. It gave me chills. Wish I had a link.
