This feels very strange

We Rangers fans are in a position to have to root FOR the Angels and Athletics in their current series: the Angels with the Yankees and the As with the Bosox. Both the Sox and the Yanks are ahead of us in the wild card race, and since there's no hope of LAA going into a prolonged slump (they're 9-1 in their last 10 games) the best we can hope for this year is the wild card.

I feel dirty, though. LIke I'm rooting for both BlowU AND Notre Dame!

Rooting against the Red Sox and the Yankees because they're in front of the Rangers in the wild card race?

You're either a new Ranger fan or the biggest optimist in the world.

Beau,

You must be new to the boards, because I've posted here many times that I went to the first game the Rangers played in Arlington and worked at the old Arlington Stadium when I was in high school.

Of course I'm optimistic. In the 36 years of futility I've spent rooting for this ballclub, I've not lost my ability to hope. And the way this team is playing, we have reason to hope. It probably won't happen this year, it's true, but there is a strong nucleus around which to build, and when the pitching improves (which I think it will now) this team can make some noise.

Beau Vine (which, BTW, I think is a GREAT screen name),

It's understandable that you've lost your ability to hope and believe in this franchise. We've had our hearts broken so many times. Remember 1974 -- 5 games above .500 but no playoffs?

Then there was 1996 -- won the division and clearly had one of the best offenses in baseball. All we needed was a closer, but we didn't have one and the Yanks came back ad took the divisional series. Then came 1998, when we HAD a closer but no offense. Same thing in 1999. So I understand -- I do.

But I refuse to knuckle under to pessimism. Even if the Rangers don't make the playoffs this year, they are still VERY entertaining to watch. It matters not how many runs they are behind, this is a team that can come back and win any game. And I'd rather have a good offense and no pitching than NO offense and no pitching.

I have read / heard quite a bit about the Angel juggernaut, which really just blossomed in July. They had a lot of injuries prior to that, plus they weren't hitting that well.

I think the Rangers / Senators have a nice future, but their pitching staff is too dismal to catch Red Sox, Yanks, and / or Twins this year.

I have been rooting against Texeira since he came to the Angels, and it was working with barely a .200 BA. But he just came up with bases loaded and I released my hold off of him...and WHAM-O...Halos now lead 9-8 in the 9th against the Yanks.

Hook'em!!!
