Thinking about getting an Acura TL

Currently looking at a 2004 Acura TL (first year of the new body style) - anyone have one? Thoughts on the car? Performance? Gas mileage? Thanks.

We have an '03 TL - S. Love it! Will keep it for 150K miles or more. Mileage is decent, not great, but we also do tons of puddle-jumping. When we used to drive it to Austin, great mileage, great ride! My sister bought an '04 TL, and my brother bought the RL after we got ours. They both are very happy as well. Lots of Acura love on this board, actually.

I have an '05 and absolutely love it. It comes loaded with all the features you have to pay extra for in the Lexus/Infiniti/BMW equivalents. Gas mileage is listed at 19/29 mpg, and that's pretty accurate from what I can tell. Engine has enough pick-up to be fun to drive. I would recommend the TL to anyone looking in that class of cars.

I have a 2004 with about 48,000 miles on it. It is a great car. The only criticism I have is that it would be a perfect sports sedan if it were rear wheel drive.

we have a 2003 TL type s in the family and it's been great. the car drives great, has been very reliable so far, and probably the best feature is the awesomeness of the acura dealership.

oh by the way, I am not sure if this would effect your decision or not, but I am pretty sure they are coming out with a new TL model in the next few months or so.

I have a 98 CL 3.0. It has 193,000 plus miles on it. It still goes like a champ and it a shot ton better on gas than my Chevy 1500 pickup. ANd that's important considering I drive nearly 60 miles a day round trip to and from work each day.

For those who have an Acura - what's the attraction?

It looks so much like every other car that only another Acura owner will be able to recognize your car as an Acura. It's almost as if inconspicuous and uninspiring were design goals for Acuras.

I suppose the competition sedans are BMW, Volvo, Audi, Cadillac, Jaguar, Lexus and Mercedes. Of those, Acura and Lexus are in the design dark ages.

Where does the Acura shine?

i had an 03' TL type s; was a piece of ****. had to replace the tranny 3 times. the 00-03's had serious transmission/recall probs but I heard they fixed them from the 04' models on. still though, i won't be buying another acura again; sucks b/c I know they're good cars, I just had some bad luck with mine. as long as it's an 04'+, you should be satisfied with it.

I had an 04 TL. Very nice car but once the baby came along I needed more space and less payment. My car did have a rattle that the couldn't locate and the leather seats seem to wear very quickly. In hindsight it's hard to imagine paying that kind of money for a spruced up Accord. And like the above poster mentioned now a days I can't even tell what make or model a car is without seeing the grill emblem.

Most of those cars listed, you shouldn't even consider trying to own for miles 100,000-200,000. The Acuras will easily remain a reliable car during that time, although as stated, Honda did have a transmission relieability problem for a few years when they made a major design change.
As far as features and styling, that is personal taste, so if you find it too mundane, buy what you like.

I personally love the styling of Acura's. Its so understated, simple, and clean. The lines are not flashy or flaring. It has the attitude of "this is all I need to beat you" and I love it. I hate chrome, bulging tail lights, and all those "look at me look at me" features. Acura's styling just seems to go about its business in a quiet way.

Some probably want the flashy chrome and what not, but I value the clean look of Acuras.

And FWIW, my wife drives an '04 TL and it runs pretty well. The only complaint we've had is that the back end toe can become excessively positive when you have back passengers and then remain positive when you don't. This results in some "loose" feeling back ends but is remedied by setting your toe slightly negative. Apparently, this condition is unique to '04's and only a small percentage of them (I have a link from a TL forum where they documented all this but not on hand... I'll look for it if someone is really interested). My sister drives an '05 TL and it does not have this issue.

yeah, mine ran great after the Feb 05' replacement, I was just never comfortable in it again after all those issues; i think i had it replaced once before but they just put the same kind in there b/c they couldn't figure out the problem. I believe the main problem was torque issues w/ the tranny.

I had an accord before the acura and it was a great car but im a toyota guy, for now, as long as my 4runner keeps running great.
