I've got the 42"... absolutely love it... the only negative is that Sony feels it necessary to have those speakers attached to the side and that base at the bottom... otherwise it is sweet..
menu options are easy to scroll through.. picture is incredible... set up instructions are provided for a variety of different configurations... and the price is awesome if you can find a deal..
As far as finding a deal - where did you get yours? I've noticed the big stores (GG, BB & CC) and even Sony direct are all $3,300. But on CNET, they advertise a bunch of online stores that are up to $1,000 cheaper. I'm sketchy about buying something from these guys though.
Well, if you're going to spend that kind of money, you should at least know that it is "Vega" not "Wega." This was a real poor naming idea by Sony because the graphic they have used (2 V's superimposed on each other) leads even the people who sell the things to think it's called "Wega." However, if you watch the Sony commercials, they clearly pronounce it "Vega."
It is Wega and it is a great set, the explanation from the Sony reps is that since your ears are on the sides of your head that is where your speakers should be, are comment back was, show us who actually uses the TV speakers anymore.
Come see me at A&B TV and I can hook you up.
DLP has to much problem with motion and often has a very green tint to it. LCOS by itself has not done well. The only other thing that I would look at would be the JVC HD-ILA, it is a modification to LCOS, has the best color and sharpness of any of the units but also runs a little more.
I have a low end Wega (no HD support) that is about 2 years old now, and have mostly been pleased. The only real issue I've had is the sound quality. Music blasts you out of the room, but voices can't be heard. Adjusting the sound effects settings makes it tolerable, but far from perfect. I don't have a fancy Surround Sound setup, so we typically use the sound from the Wega.
I have a 36" that I bought about 3 years ago, I agree that the picture is great but the sound is only average. A seperate sound system is the only way to go. I have also moved 3 times and it is the heaviest TV in the world, I have the scars to prove it.
I bought the 32" non HD one about two weeks ago, and I love mine. Picture quality is excellent and sound seems fine to me. Better than anything I've had before.
Wow somebody out there is giving me credit!!!!
I am Harlan and if anybody on Hornfans is looking for audio/video stuff come see me and let me know that you saw this on Hornfans and I will make sure you get a great deal.
Thanks for the plug.
waazel...
where I got my tv would do you no good... but for good measure I can state that I got my tv for $2,260 delivered to my door by CDW... list price at the time was $2,799. of course it helps that my cousin is a sales rep there... hehehe..
go to a Best Buy or CC or Conns and negotiate a little... take some print outs of deals online and challenge them to match.. none will, and all the salesmen will till you how dangerous it is to buy online... so then tell them to make you a deal.. I was able to get all of them to knock about 10-15% off the price, but of course still got it at CDW..
Hate to keep plugging A&B TV, but we have Home Theater Store beaten on the 50" as well. Another thing we are localy owned and operated, and you will be dealing with a big Longhorn fan.
I ponied up for this season and bought the 60" Sony Wega on Monday night. I paid $3649.99. While I would have been perfectly happy with the 50", I saw the 70" and decided to go in between
I'm surprised I made it to work at all since then with that TV waiting at home for me.
btw, I'm not knocking Samsung but at Circuit City and Best Buy, there were a TON of 'open box' Samsungs in all sizes. Not quite sure why but that didn't make me feel comfortable about purchasing a new one.
I do like Samsung but seeing that many for re-sale doesn't give you a good feeling when spending $2,000+
