The contributions of the freshmen: they have made a difference in the depth of the team. They continue to push the vets in practice and help provide a bench that allows for different looks and matchup problems for opponents.
The spurt we saw last season when the team ended up 5-6 after starting off 0-7 has continued with improved play as they end the first half of league play at 5-4. They have an excellent shot to at least match that to end at 10-8. I think they exceed that projection.
Multiple scoring options are available, especially on the perimeter. Nneka is the stable presence inside with Kelsey, Nekia and Imani capable of strong games as well. Chassidy, Brady and Empress have all led the team in scoring. Both Krystle and Celina have also had good games scoring. That makes it difficult to take away any particular player out of the equation when others can readily step up.
Finally, there are multiple statistical categories where both the team and individual players rank among the top. Last year, the opposite was most commonly seen.
I like the team’s chances to get into the NCAAs if they keep playing and improving throughout the rest of the season. They have multiple wins over top 25 teams and should add a few more over the last half of the season.
I love their attitude of not being satisfied with where they are but continuing to work to improve.
