Things to do in New Zealand

outdoor activities are the main event in new zealand. fishing, hiking, kayaking, boating, etc. others can give more detailed info on specific places. both islands are scenic, but the south is supposed to be amazing. i went for one week to the north island, primarily to play golf. there are 2 top-notch golf courses in NZ, cape kidnappers and kauri cliffs, if you happen to be a golfer. i took a boat tour of the bay of islands which was really nice. your activities depend on what time of year you will be visiting. 2 days in auckland would be fun as well, the downtown area on the water is cool, some great restaurants and nightlife.

The South Island is fantastic. If you end up down there, do not miss out on Queenstown--its a beautiful small city surrounded by water and mountains. I would also recommend whitewater rafting, and the glacier on the west coast.

was there for two weeks. Saw/did:

South Island
Nelson - Sea Kayaking in the Tasman Sea
Kaikoura - Whale Watching
Mt Cook - Trail hiking
Christchurch - Puntin the Avon
Queenstown - Jetboat the Shotover River
Te Anau - Glow Worm Caves
Milford Sound - boat ride - A MUST SEE.
West Coast - both Glaciers

North Island
Wellington - like a smaller San Francisco
Whanganui - River Road
Rangitaiki - White Water Rafting
Ruapehu Volcano
Rotorua - Haka and geysers
Coromandel Peninsula
Auckland / Bay of Islands (Beautiful)

Have fun. New Zealand is fantastic. I would go back in a heartbeat. Best vacation of my life.
