Things I didn't know about AC/DC...

...but learned reading AC/DC Maximum Rock & Roll:

Angus and Malcolm's eldest brother George had some top 40 hits with the 60's outfit the Easybeats. George filled in as a studio drummer and bassist on a couple of early albums.

George also suggested they write a song named High Voltage, since it captured what the band was about. He also suggested a chord progression of A-C-D-C.

Angus barely drinks at all, and none of the band were the rampant cokeheads I'd always assumed.

Malcolm can tear it up comparable to Angus, but, being the business-minded one, sees the advantage of Angus' schoolboy persona dominating the group.

Even the band admits Flick the Switch wasn't very good.

***** bands like Foreigner and Journey, having been blown off the stage in various festivals, refused to play any show in which AC/DC opened for them.

And my personal favorite:

AC/DC's first show of their very first US tour was at Armadillo World Headquarters in Austin.

all their songs sound the same. (but you probably already knew that)

heard "whole lotta rosy" on the radio on may way back from lunch.

I think I'm the only person on the planet who liked "Flick of the Switch"... and "Fly on the Wall" for that matter. I think I'm the biggest AC/DC fan of them all. And right now I'm jealous as hell of Texas Rocks.

Malcolm Young is probably the most under-appreciated rock star in the history of rock (along with Tommy Alsup).

AC/DC is one of my favorite bands of all-time. I remember reading somewhere that one of the singers for the band (maybe Bon Scott) was a driver for the road crew and took over as singer when the old singer quit.

.

From what I understand Angus is very shy and was suggested by his sister to wear the school boy outfit to help with the shyness.

Things I didn't know about AC/DC...

They are Australian.

But in all seriousness.. when i was in middle school, some friends older brother had the LP with Angus snearing with the little devil horns on his head..(i think it was Angus) It scared the crap out of me and i was convinced it was devil satanic music. ahhh, my middle school tiny brain.

They were actually born in Glasgow, but moved when Angus, youngest of 8 kids (and 7th son) was 7 or 8.

The book talks briefly about the 80's protests of their shows; I saw the Fly on the Wall tour and remember some nut job yelling at me that I was going to hell if I walked through them doors. Tried to give me a pamphlet explaining my certain pending damnation. Wish I'd kept it....

Also, still the loudest show I've ever seen. My ears rang for three stinking days after.

2x on the loudest rock band ever heard. I still claim that my hearing is due to too many AC/DC concerts.

FYI, if you live in Dallas check out Back in Black an AC/DC tribute band. It is shocking how close to the real thing they are.

I have only seen them live once back in the 80's at reunion and they bring it. It was loud and furious on stage. Other than Zeppelin I don't know of a band I listened to more in the 80's.

AC/DC. Man, I used to love that band. I was at one of those Reunion shows that others have mentioned on the thread and actually saw them back-2-back when they came through on the For Those About to Rock Tour. 2nd night I had front-row seats - don't remember how that happened actually - right in freakin' FRONT of the speaker wall. They were a loud band back then... After the 3rd or 4th day of not being able to hear, I really thought I had done some serious damage.

I think I lost my love for them when they came through a few years later and didn't play This House is on Fire on the tour for that album or the one afterwards. Man, I will never understand why they can't do an album of bluesy rockers to give his Donald Duck voice a rest as he can still hit it on the raspy quiet spots of some of the tunes.

Other reason I stopped going to their concerts was the fact that the GD "The Jack" was played at every freakin' show and it just bothered the hell out me since they have some great songs that get kicked off the play list for that Godawful piece of crap monstrosity.
