Things Have Gotten Nasty in Tennessee

Most are probably aware of the recent "retirement" of Debby Jennings, the long-time media relations director for the Lady Vols. She was told to retire or be fired but is now fighting back. There is even talk that the AD told Pat Summitt that she would not be welcomed back as head coach next year. If true, that's a low blow to someone who has done so much for women's basketball. Here's a link to their forums. Click on The Summitt and scroll down about half way on the first page and click to read a column by Maria Cornelius about the whole mess.

wonder how that is going to end. It looks to be a nasty fight.
Tough for the Lady Vols coaches to recruit with those questions going on.

Somewhere in one of the forum posts I read that Tenn and Texas are the only major schools that have separate men's and women's athletic departments. Apparently the new AD at Tenn is in the process of consolidating the two departments (supposedly a money saving strategy) and a number of the "old-timers" are finding themselves pushed out the door.

the main problems seems to be that so many of those being let go are women. And that so many are from the women's programs, leading to a strong perception that the women's programs are being trivialized.
