These Refs Suck!!!

They are knocking our guards around on our drives every time and not getting called for it. Our only advantage in this game was speed and by not calling any fouls when they knock Augustin around they have effectively screwed our only advantage. Also, every freaking bounce is going Memphis's way. TOTAL CRAP!!!

- Venting over.

Texas' advantage was speed??

Texas got outrun up and down the court by Kansas, and i think memphis is faster than they are.

The only advantage Texas had in this game was DJ, and he was neutralized with the lack of calls when he drove to the basket.

Would it have mattered? probably not, But memphis is just he better team, and when you face a better team, you have to play better than Texas played.

i think the only thing i'm a little dissappointed about was the foul instead of foul and the basketball by James... could of brought the score to within 5 or 6 and sparked a comeback...

awesome season while it lasted though

You know....I'm not going to blame this entire game on the refs but I will say that the refs were especially pathetic when Memphis went on that run in the first half to stretch the lead. The refs allowed them to play extremely physical while on the other end were calling fouls against us.

In the end the fouls evened out (taking away the fouling at the end of the game) but I simply will not say the refs did not help Memphis gain a big lead in the first half.

In general the refereeing is very poor across all of college basketball. It seems that >50% of all out of bounds calls are missed. Games are called inconsistently from crew to crew and even half to half by the same crews. Something is going to have to be done, whether that is instant replay or just a better evaluation system.

That balding ref clearly had Memphis -3.5. My only beef that is worthing raising is the several over the back calls where they gave Memphis possession. Either call the foul or give the other team possession. Oh yeah, and that non-continuation sucked too. All in all, the more aggressive team got the calls and that is the way it should be. Great season.

I thought aggy was a loser for bitching about the refs after their loss to UCLA.

I'll be damned if I ***** about them today.

I don't see anyone here blaming the refs for our loss but if you were watching the game you could not help but notice that we were being called for a lot of touch fouls and DJ got hammered at least 5 times while driving to the hole and never got a call.

A good example was when Memphis was on a break and their guy drove down next to the lane and Damion James barely brushed him, way before he left the floor for any kind of shot, and they not only called a foul on James but also let the guy go up way after the whistle and score. It certainly was not much of a foul and it was way before he ever shot the ball.

A few minutes later DJ drives inside and a Memphis player body slammed him into the first row while he was trying to shoot and no call at all.

This was not the reason we lost but it sure hurt the way we had to play.

Anybody who was at the game would clearly say the same thing. Memphis was allowed to play much more physically than we were. whether it was the continuous hand and hip checking of D.J. or the grabbing and holding of A.J. as he ran around the perimeter it was ridiculous. D.J. was knocked down to the ground on a layup many a times and in one instance a ticky tack and 1 foul was called on Damion immediately after D.J. was knocked to the ground.

Obviously we were out played the entire game, but the way the game was called frustrated the players (especially D.J.) and caused them to be tentative at times in going to the hole.

Agreed. Memphis got away with playing aggressive defense. We didn't. It affected the game. Probably not the reason we lost, but it probably accounted for quite a few points.

Hornfans.com logic: "If you complain about a call, this must mean that you are blaming the loss on the refs."

The refs significantly affected the game. I thought they were reasonably consistent, but that doesn't make it right.

There are two kinds of overly-aggressive contact. First, there is grabbing and pushing on the perimeter or off the ball. Second, there is contact when a player is in the act of shooting. I don't have a problem with refs allowing the first to some degree as long as they are consistent. That is called letting them play. It is unacceptable at any time to allow the second. And that is what the refs did. Every time Texas went to the hole, our players got knocked off their path while shooting and no fouls were called. That is simply unacceptable. We started mugging them on drives in the second half and getting away with it. That doesn't make it right.

As for effect on the game, it had a huge effect. First, it had a whole lot to do with DJ not playing that well. If he can't get a call when he gets hammered laying the ball up, there is no point in driving. Second, Memphis led by 10 or 11 at halftime. They had at least that many points off of "blocks" that were absolute muggings that turned into fast breaks the other way.

Would Texas have won? Probably not. Memphis did an unbelievable job scoring from mid range in the second half. I had them pegged for being able to do nothing but shoot threes and dunk, but they showed a lot more. But with the refs allowing them to get away with murder when our shorter players drove to the basket, there was no way to keep up with their scoring.

More importantly, it doesn't ******* matter if we would have won. The refs did a poor job. That is true regardless of whether the effected the outcome of the game or not. You people are acting like it is improper to say a ref did a bad job unless that bad job 100% cost one team the game. That is just stupid.

You can't say that the officiating yesterday decided the game for the Horns. With fair officiating, we could have won by 20 or lost by 20. However the refs did prevent the Horns from executing their gameplan properly and ruined the rhythm of the game while letting Memphis do whatever the hell they wanted. There was a clear double-standard that favored Memphis. The refs were definitely a changing factor yesterday.

Memphis was a better team than Texas.
Memphis deserved to win the game.
The refs sucked.

Those are not mutually exclusive. You can go to a great restaurant and have great food but have the service suck. You would expect that the food will consistently be great, but the ****** service of the waitstaff detracts from the overall experience.

1st half DJ goes into the lane, gets hammered, no call. Ball is thrown down court to 2 unguarded Tigers for an uncontested dunk. 4 pt swing.

2nd half. James drives in, gets bumped while shooting, makes the shot, but somehow the ref says the foul was before the shot. We quickly turn it over, Memphis goes back down and hits a quick 3. 6 pt swing.

Also, did they ever call a charge that entire game? Several times Mason would try to draw one on their fast breaks and they just wouldn't call anything. I saw Barnes yelling at the ref at one point to make that call. I also think he referred to it in some post-game comments.
