There Will Be Blood

I saw it.

it may be the best movie ever made about a bad guy.

the pacing (no dialogue for I think the first 20 minutes). the music. and DDL... it just fills you with dread... and wears you out.

Over-rated (clap clap . . . . clap clap clap).

It was a decent movie and DDL will be a deserving winner for Best Actor, but no way is this the best movie of the year.

Saw it in LA (pretty amazing that a 3:25 showing was completely sold out).

Definitely one of the more uncomfortable movies of recent years. I've read a few reviews that call this a huge departure for Anderson, but I don't agree. It's certainly more minimalist, but his movies typically are comfort-reducing.

Overall, I loved it. Johnny Greenwood's score was everything I'd hoped it would be. My favorite "unusual" aspect of the movie: instead of punches, almost all fights involved slapping, which is uber-realistic.

I saw it on Friday night. I loved it. The performance is worth the viewing. My wife HATED it. She agreed that the acting was great but she couldn't deal with the length of the movie. I agree that a few more frames should have hit the cutting floor, but in the end I still loved it.

i saw it on friday, and while the ending wasn't on par with the rest of the film, Lewis may have given the best performance of the year, and Anderson took his style in a different direction and did a great job with this story. I agree, it was a bit long, but it still made for a great film. I've seen a lot of acclaimed films over the past year, and I'd have to say that I think this wins best picture, best actor, and maybe one for cinematography as well. Go see this move.

It was a good, not great, film, IMO, but that may have had to do with my expectations, which were sky-high.

I think the script suffered from poor structure, but I should probably watch it again. The production value was really good and DDL was excellent, as expected.

I don't think there was a powerful enough message, nor was the message delivered powerfully enough, for it to be the best movie of the year. For my money, "No Country" and "Rescue Dawn" were both better films.

But yeah, it was really good and everyone should go out and see it.

Eye of the beholder. Personally, I liked NCFOM, The Kingdom & American Gangster better than TWBB. Again, I think DDL wins Best Actor and Paul Dano should be mentioned for Best Supporting Actor. I just didn't like the movie enough to call it the Year's Best.

Saw There Will Be Blood this afternoon and I loved it. Very dark stuff. The film making, the acting and the score were all fantastic. I am not sure if I liked it better than No Country, but I have seen No Country three times and this only once, so i will have to think about it some and maybe see it again before i decide.

I saw it again tonight. still think it's ******* great. can see why it's not for everyone. a lot of people hated 'punchdrunk love', too. I sure didn't.

where can i see this movie?? apparently san antonio isn't cool enough as a city to have the privilege of showing this movie until 2044. anywhere in austin i can go?

SPOILERS********************

But that is exactly what I found so fascinating. You could tell he was an evil, power-hungry man. But there was always the sense that he could choose ultimate salvation. You were kept on edge about whether he would choose the path to reconcile his demons and choose to be a good man and a good father. Or he could throw it all away to loom large over all those around him. I thought the film was a ******* brilliant character study of the larger-than-life american self-made-man.

I don't see any way in hell DDL does not win best actor for this. He was brilliant.

I just saw it at the Arbor, and I'm pretty weirded out.

I don't think its about Plainview and the road to salvation/damnation, though. I'll have to ponder this more.

Man, this movie was very very dark, and intense. I liked it, but at the same time I didnt like it. I kept trying to put myself in his shoes and when I did, I just felt like if I were him, it would not be possible to keep my sanity. Having no hope or feeling utter loneliness like him would be unbearable for me.

I don't know if I have every felt more middle of the road about a movie. There was just enough interesting stuff happening to keep me interested..then would come a lull...then something interesting...

The visuals were really good I thought. I don't think it is best picture worthy, but not bad either. Definitely had hoped for more.

i thought it was perfect through the first 1 1/2 hours.

the most annoying thing was when they interleaved the shots of the Davis Mountains with shots of Northern California.

second most annoying thing was the kid hunting quail with a "shotgun" that had no recoil.

I kept telling my wife at times there was no way that was NorCal and that it looked like Texas.

Loved the movie all the way up 'til the time skip. After that, not nearly as much.

DDL is amazing.
